DAY THIRTY...

Wednesday and marvelous…
It’s a beautiful day outside, a great day at work, a good workout at Bally’s and still on my weight loss high from Tuesday’s clinical.
Oh yeah, I also enjoyed my little cup of sugar-free Jell-O last night. I had Orange Jell-O and boy was it delicious, every last slurp!
The funny part is how much it actually filled me up. I can now tell that my stomach has really shrunk from this liquid diet.
I met with the trainer at the gym tonight at it was a really good work out. I now know how to workout on 5 pieces of gym equipment mostly pertaining to my upper body.
I will tell you now that I am home and have had a shower and now I am starting to get sore.
I have decided to move my workout that I was going to do from Thursday morning to Thursday afternoon.
I talked to a dear old friend last night as his wife had seen my Face Book notation about my recent weight loss and he was interested in how I am loosing so much weight so fast.
I explained the NutriMed System to him and tried to give an honest impression about this type of liquid diet. As I have said in the past, it is not for everyone and takes total commitment and determination. I hope that I helped him in some way to make a decision that only he can make.
I will tell you that if anyone goes on this diet I promise I will be there for support.
I wish that I knew someone (a friend) that was either on this diet or had been on it in the past so I could have had the support of someone who experienced or is experiencing the same thing that I am.
It really helps when your family and friends are behind you and I am very thankful for this and their continued support.
I’m not sure if my recently reduced blood pressure medicine is at an OK level for my weight as when I got out of bed this morning I was light headed and even had to sit on the edge of the bed for a minute. I am watching this closely and if continues, will call my family Doctor again.
Next week at clinical I will also have lab work completed. This will extend my clinical visit to about an hour or so.
Not a lot else is going on and I hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful sunny day~

Day Twenty Nine...

Tuesday and Clinical day!
I anxiously waited all day for my clinical visit today and I still don’t know why I was so distraught regarding this visit.
Anyway…I should not have been worried as I lost another 6.5 pounds this week for a 4 week total of 30 pounds. I now weigh 215 pounds and a long cry from my original starting weight of 245 pounds. I am very, very excited and so was the clinical team!
I will say that the 4th week has been a really easy week on the NutriMed diet and I am extremely hopeful that the 5th week and additional upcoming weeks are too.
I think that I am finally getting use to this diet regiment. Every time I think about the first two to three weeks on the NutriMed system I want to cuss as it was extremely hard and I did not know if I was going to make it or not.
I will never, ever, ever complain about portion size of food or even the type of food even if I did not like it. After this liquid diet anything has to be better then it!
I have three more workouts to go to at the fitness center this week, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and then off for the weekend.
I am enjoying getting into a workout routine as this is something (apparently) that I have never done before in my life.
I am glad that I started this diet when I did so hopefully when summer comes I will be off of it and ready to start grilling. I am going to miss eating Easter dinner at my In-Laws and I may even miss our big Memorial Day/pool party BBQ this year as I am not quite sure when I will be permitted to eat again.
I keep thinking in my head that in reality this is just a short period of time (12 weeks or 3 months) and then I can begin a new way of eating and enjoying life. But I will tell you when you talk about 12 weeks or 3 months it does not seem a long period of time; however I can assure you that is not the case when it is affecting you. It seems like an ETERNITY!
I have got to go as it is now time for me to open up my first cup of sugar-free Jell-O. I can hardly wait!

Day Twenty Eight...

Glorious Monday-NOT!
Whew, what a day, what a day.
I was extremely busy at work today and then also have to go to the fitness center afterwards. I didn’t know if I had the energy to do that or not. OK, enough of that negative energy and yes I did go work out today another 50 minutes.
I am actually still a little sore from my Sunday morning workout. Huh, must be working?
Well tomorrow is the big clinical day at St. E’s and as I said on Sunday I feel like I am riding a double edged sword (ouch!). I am excited to go and see my results but for some reason this week I am just not sure if I had weight loss or not. I’m sure I did and maybe just psyching myself out. It’s hard to tell now if the weight is still coming off or not.
Family and friends say that it is and that they can tell but it is hard for me to determine looking at myself in the mirror.
It’s strange, and sorry that I can’t explain it better.
I mean I’ve lost 23.5 frigen pounds my first three weeks and I can see that but what I have found to be interesting is that when I look in the mirror I still see a some what fat face and body.
I think that the shakes and lack of food are playing dirty little mean tricks on me!
I will tell you that I still feel good, and really better than I did before I started this diet.
The 5th week is upon me and if anyone can make it this far then you can surly make it to the end! Besides, one more day and I can eat a cup of Sugar Free Jell-O at only 10 calories. It’s gonna’ be a feast!
I will update my blog on Tuesday night after I get home from Clinical and report good or bad to you. I will not be discouraged, I will not be discouraged…

Day Twenty Seven...

Sunday, and a rainy one at that!
I got up this morning and went to the fitness center and worked out for 50 minutes to an hour.
Sore, sore, sore, sore, sore-I hate that damn elliptical piece of equipment!
I am looking forward to meeting with the trainer on Wednesday as there are a few pieces of equipment that I want to use, but I don’t really know how for certain parts of my body. (I.e. love handles, abs, man boobs and toning up my arms.) My legs have always looked great (not sure why) so I really don’t need to work on them.
I always feel good after the workout and also glad when it is over.
I worked out 4 times this past week and that is my goal for this week too. I think that I am going to workout Monday, Wednesday and Thursday after work and then before work on Friday morning. I can't workout on Tuesday's due to my clinical visit at St. E's.  I’ve decided that the weekends are going to be mine and I don’t think that I am going to workout on them unless I miss sometime during that week. Besides, it is in Blue Ash and I already drive there Monday thru Friday to work.
I came home, drank a shake, took a shower and took my blood pressure. It is again low at 110/64. I am glad that I am monitoring it daily as I am getting close to the “don’t get to rate” of 90/50. The Doctor at the hospital said that this is the “danger zone” and I will probably pass-out every time that I get up from a sitting position.
I am cooking a big country Sunday dinner for my family today as they have suffered with me throughout this liquid diet, especially my wife. So I am cooking one of their favorite meals. Double crusted fried chicken strips, homemade real butter/sour cream mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, homemade biscuits and country chicken (white) gravy from the chicken drippings. This is probably one of my favorite meals too, but I will be enjoying a very delicious chocolate shake. Can’t wait! lol
You know that on Tuesday I will be stating on my 5th week of the NutriMed System and as I have said in previous blog entries I am 100% faithful on this liquid diet and have not had a bite of food, at all. My point is ending my 4th week I am not sure what to expect on my weight loss for this week. I am sure that each weekly loss will be much lower than my first two weeks loss but I am finding myself anxious for this upcoming clinical visit.
Granted, even a two pound loss is good, but when you think of eating nothing but liquid shakes 5 times a day, 7 days a week you hope and pray that you would lose a little more each week.
It’s good, it’s all good. Till tomorrow, enjoy your Sunday…

Day Twenty Six...

Happy weekend to everyone…
I got up early this morning and thought that I would go out and run/walk around the neighborhood for the first time. However, that did not happen as it was really cold and I stay cold most of the time anyway since a few pounds have dropped off of me.
I had already planned to go to Bally’s on Sunday morning to workout and have decided just to stick with that plan.
My blood pressure was again pretty low again this morning 114/62 and I know it is time for that medication change.
I will pick up my new prescriptions sometime today and hope that it will manage my new weight loss and keep me from being light headed in the mornings and sometimes throughout the day if I stand up too quick.
I went with the family last night for a Birthday dinner for my oldest son (19 yrs. old) and his choice was Independence LaRosa’s. My in-laws also went and we had a great evening. There was spaghetti, meatballs, salad, garlic bread, pizza, calzone, phily-steak sandwich, BBQ wings, soft-drinks, beer and ice-tea. The restaurant scene does not bother me and I just enjoy the time with the family.
I have decided to work in the yard a little bit today once the temperature goes up and plan on putting the first round of fertilizer down. Other then that I think that it is going to be a pretty uneventful day.
I think that we do have plans to go down to a neighbor’s house tonight to watch the UK game. Well, I will be watching as my wife heckles! LOL (she is a UK hater!)
Have a good Saturday and GO BIG BLUE!

Day Twenty Five...

It’s Friday!
My day started out at the fitness center. I got there around 6:45am and worked out until 7:50am, showered and came to work.
I really like working out in the mornings—the energy is amazing!
I actually worked out on all of the cardio equipment and then ventured over to the weight center and did 20 ab crunches. I already feel the muscle ache!
I burned off 1,900 plus calories and the sad part is that I will only consume 420 today-
I received a call from my Doctor and he will be reducing 2 of my blood pressure prescriptions effective immediately. One prescription will be reduced from 10mg to 5mg per day and the second prescription will be reduced from 20mg to 10mg per day. I will continue with the remaining medications for now. This is GREAT news and what I have been working so hard for on this damn diet! Whew, I’m headed in the right direction and I am going to keep on going, cauze’ nothing is stopping me now! ! !
I am excited for my 5th week to start on Tuesday as I am allowed to have fat-free Jell-O cup at 10 calories each, 2 times a day. Food, real food, well not really but liquid, gelled substance-mmm-good. My body will probably go in shock.
Hey listen, when you have been drinking nothing but shakes for the past 4 weeks anything sounds D-E-L-I-C-I-C-I-O-U-S. Let me bask in my glory! OK, lol
I have decided to stay with the chocolate NutriMed shakes as they are my favorite and I don’t get tired of drinking them. So, at next weeks clinical I am getting all 5 boxes in chocolate like I did this past week.
I am still drinking tons and tons of water (100+oz) per day and I also “treat” myself to a glass of diet Ginger Ale with a fresh lime slice and lemon slice each evening. You would not believe how much I look forward to that simple glass of a non-water drink!
Today has been a great day! It started with a great workout, great news from my Doctor and its Friday…

Day Twenty Four...

Thursday, the day after hump day and the day before TGI Friday!
Well, I lied. I am sore this morning from my first work out on Thursday evening.
It’s not too bad but I can feel the soreness in my legs and stomach.
I’m taking the day off from working out today and have decided to go to the fitness center before work on Friday morning around 6:30am. We have planes on Friday night after work and I don’t want to miss a workout day because of plans.
I have another meeting with the personal trainer on Wednesday at 5pm and then I am on my own.
I placed a call into my Doctor today as my blood pressure has been at an all time low for the past few days and I am really light headed. The past couple of days I could just feel the light headiness in the morning when I first got out of bed but not today as I kinda feel a little sluggish and that usually means blood pressure.
My blood pressure was 109/75 this morning.
The Doctor is off today but his nurse asked me to fax my blood pressure readings from the past 3+ weeks to her and she would give to my Doctor on Friday.
Not sure what the outcome will be or his suggestion but something definitely has to change!

Day Twenty Three..

It’s “hump” day-yeah…
Nothing is changing with my diet routine now and I can actually say that I am on a routine. It kinda’ seems natural as I have been doing the same routine for four weeks now. I am no longer missing food and the shakes have become a regular habit or routine each day.
I think that it is time to call my family Doctor as I am now light headed in the mornings when I first get out of bed. The Doctor last night at the clinic said that she thinks that it is time too.
It’s a little scary as I have been taking so many blood pressure pills daily for 15 years now and they have become my personal crutch. My daily blood pressure readings are staying around 114/67 and I think that the blood pressure pills are still trying to compensate my level when I had the additional weight on, hence the light headed feelings when I wake up.
I’ll call the Doctor on Thursday to get his recommendations.
Today is the day that I meet with a trainer at Bally’s Total Fitness Club in Blue Ash. I have a week’s free pass but know I am ready to join a month to month plan as well.
I am looking forward to getting started on a weekly routine. I plan on going at least 3 times per week and if time permit maybe 4.
I shouldn’t be sore after my first workout as I have been on our home treadmill 5 to 6 times a week for 3 weeks now.
I will let you know tomorrow if that is the case or not. I may not be able to get out of bed in the morning? LOL
Till tomorrow, thanks for following….Jon

Day Twenty Two...

Another good day today with the diet-
Well it was clinical day at St. E’s and my results are---
I lost 5 pounds during my third week. Total weight loss is 23.5 pounds!
As another week ends, the next begins…
I can honestly tell you that as I am entering into my 4th week (starting today) on the NutriMed diet that it has gotten quite a bit easier as each day passes.
The first 2 to 3 weeks was ROUGH and I am not ashamed to admit that. Think about one day you are eating and the next day you are not. Now, times that by possibly 12 weeks or 90 days without eating and it does mess with your mind.
I am very comfortable with myself now and really do not miss food, at all. I have even gotten over of the chewing complex that I was having during the first 2 weeks as I really missed just chewing-how funny is that.
My clothes are really baggy on me including pants, shirts, tee-shirts, underwear and even socks. I put on one of my sons tee-shirt this morning and it is a Lg. I usually wear an XL.
There must be a significant change in my physical appearance too as people are starting to notice the weight loss in my face as well in the rest of my body.
Finally, results from this diet are showing. Aaaahhh~

Day Twenty One...

Not a bad Monday at all, at least for a Monday.
Diet on track today, however somehow I got off of my routine today at work and only drank 2 shakes instead of 3 that I am supposed to get it. Not sure how that happened at all.
Anyway, I got the 3 shake in when I got home and now have only one more to go.
I worked out on the treadmill when I got home from work and must be sore from yesterday’s work out as I struggled on the treadmill today. I still got my 1.5 miles in and proud of that.
Well tomorrow is the BIG day with clinical at 4:30pm that includes a urine sample (happy to give as soon as I walk in their door) and then the dreaded weigh-in, blood pressure check, meeting with the Doctor including consultation of my past week and my expectations of the upcoming week.
I will share the news tomorrow night after I get home from the hospital-good or bad!
I am hoping that I will have lost 3 to 5 pounds this week. Again, no cheating, not a bite of food, not a drink of anything that I am not allowed to have and keeping compliant with the complete NutriMed diet system.

Sunday, March 21, 2010

DAY TWENTY...

It’s been a decent Sunday.
I have already had 3 shakes today and also worked out on the treadmill for 30 minutes.
I think that I have worked out more then I was supposed to this week as I lost count and worked out six days instead of five.
I stopped by Bally’s Fitness Center (in Blue Ash) and toured their facility this week. It’s a pretty nice place and I like their equipment. I’m thinking about joining and working out 3 to 4 times a week on their cardio equipment and just basic workout equipment. I don’t want to do the gym weights as that is not my goal. I would like to shed a couple of “love” handles and “man” boobs. LOL.
The diet is working and I think that the treadmill is too but I feel that I need a little more help in getting back into shape and I think that Bally’s will help me accomplish that.
I believe that they have a 7 day free pass that I may try before I commit. Their monthly “month to month” is $24.95. I don’t want to spend additional money if I don’t have to as the NutriMed system is expensive on it’s on.
I’m going to ask the Doctor this week at the hospital if it would be OK for me to workout at a fitness center instead of just working out at home on the treadmill as I have been doing.
I can’t believe that Tuesday is almost here for another clinical and weigh in. Tuesday will start my 4th week on the diet.
I went to the grocery store today with my wife for the first time since starting the NutriMed system. It was not bad at all. We got a lot of groceries for the family and I did really well looking at all of the fruits, vegetables, meats, etc…I cannot wait until I can eat GLORIOUS food again except this time in moderation and with different cooking habits. Its funny while at the grocery store I kept looking at all different kinds of food and immediately turning them over to see the calorie content and amount allowed per serving. I do not think that I have ever done that in my life or to be honest with you ever really cared. I am looking forward to meeting in the upcoming weeks with the hospital nutritionist and learning what I can eat and what I can’t eat, or shouldn’t eat.
Now this does not mean that I am going to give up everything or not try a high calorie food if I really want it, but do this in moderation and be aware of how this will affect my calorie intake for that day.
Enough for today, till tomorrow…

Day Nineteen...

What a great and beautiful S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y.
I got up later then usual this morning and took my daily blood pressure reading. It was 110/70 with my pulse rate of 69. It has been hovering around the 110 mark for a few days this week and I think only going up in the 120s once.
I am hopeful that I can get off some prescriptions sometime within the next couple of weeks.
I had a busy morning with my wife (hair cut, styled and nails done) and then we came home and worked in the backyard around the pool cutting and burning the ornamental grasses, trimmed a couple of trees and set up the patio furniture. It’s almost pool season again and we are ready too.
Its 4:30 and I realized that I have only had 3 shakes today so I am a little off schedule. I will get the 4th one around 7:30 and then I guess a late one tonight at 10:30. That’s OK, as we are having a bunch of friends over around 7 for appetizers, drinks, horse craps and Texas hold em’.
Boy, don’t my shakes sound good now. Yes, I am being fascias. This has been a better weekend then the last two as I don’t feel moody or if my one neighbor was here he would say is “Crabby pants” back? It has to be the diet, up and down, down and up, etc, etc, etc,
I finally found a couple of diet soft drinks that I actually like, Diet Ginger Ale and Sprite Zero. I’ve tried Diet Coke and Diet Cherry Coke and really don’t care for it. I don’t want to get into a diet drink habit like I was with regular Pepsi (Mmmm-Pepsi, nothing better) but it is a nice change from water and Crystal Light. I can’t believe that I am saying this but my drink of choice is now water…
I’m rambling and gotta go to get ready for tonight. Happy 1st day of Spring everyone.

Friday, March 19, 2010

Day Eighteen...

Friday is finally here and for the most part it has been a better week.
I kinda had a dilemma today as I had to drive to Columbus for business and wondered how I was going to drink my required shakes while on the road. I decided to pack a small cooler with ice and a couple of bottles of water and then before I left the house this morning I blended two packets of Chocolate shake in 16 oz of water and then I poured it into a Tupperware container with a lid on it. I moved over my two bottles of water and I was good to go.
Now the downside…drinking water and shakes in the car was not bad at all but having to go to the bathroom 2 times in each direction—sucked!
I am debating if I am going to get on the treadmill or not tonight and just workout on Saturday and Sunday. I have already worked out on the treadmill 3 times this week so I only have to get 2 more in over the weekend.
I am not sure what the plans are tonight if we are staying home or going out. As long as I can plan ahead for my shake intake I am ready to go.
I am looking forward to this weekend and then before you know it, Tuesday’s here, and time for another clinical. May the scale God’s be good to me again this week!

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Day Seventeen...

Thursday, Thursday, Thursday…it’s a great day because it is the day before Friday!
I got up this morning and felt a little woozy so I immediately took my blood pressure. It was 110/70. I cannot remember the last time that I saw those numbers. Probably 30 years ago!
If I keep around this number the next few days then I will call the NutriMed Doctor who will then call my Doctor who will determine if I can be removed from a prescription or two.
My primary goal when going on this diet was to try to remove my daily prescription intake from 6 pills per day to 3 or 2 or none!
The NutriMed team is very confident that I will be able to come off of most of my prescriptions but maybe not all if my high blood pressure is hereditary.
Listen, even if I can get off 1 prescription I am better off then I was 3 weeks ago.
As I think about this morning now I am wondering if I had my 5th and final shake last evening at home. I don’t think that I did due to just forgetting about it. If so, I missed 80 calories yesterday and with me working out on the treadmill for 30 minutes I was well below my usual 420 calories per day. I assume that this could have been the culprit with my light headiness this morning too.
It has been a decent day and just another day on the NutriMed system---

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Day Sixteen...

It’s been a good Wednesday and looking forward to tomorrow.
I guess that I am still on a weight loss high from last night at clinical.
I worked out tonight on the treadmill, still keeping it at 30 minutes at a time and have reduced my workout nights to 5 instead of 6.
I went over to a neighbor’s house after work today as he has the Ab Circle. You are supposed to get on it for 3 minutes, 3 times a week and have rock hard abs in 6 weeks PLUS it is a great cardio workout.
I got on it and back off of it and said hell no! Apparently it is not the workout machine for me. I decided to keep it real on a treadmill.
I will be glad for spring to get here this Saturday and stay here with the warm weather so I can put a little variety in my workout by walking the neighborhood sidewalks.
Sorry that the blogs have not been real interesting lately but just like anything else you kinda’ get in a rut and most of my days are the same.
I’ll try to be a little more creative in the future or then, maybe not.
By the way….HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY…

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Day Fifteen...

Today was my clinical visit and a very good, scratch that GREAT day!
I lost an additional 8.5 pounds this second week on the NutriMed system.
My total weight loss is 18.5 pounds and I did it in two (2) weeks.
This damn’ diet does work! It’s a killer, but with good results.
Now I’m officially in my third week and supposedly the hardest weight loss week.
I asked the RN during clinical what to expect at my weigh in next Tuesday. She said I will probably lose anywhere from 3 to 5 pounds and not to expect the high number weight loss like I have had these first two weeks.
I asked a lot and I mean a lot of questions at clinical of what to expect in the upcoming weeks. The RN was very helpful and gladly answered all of my ? ? ?
I have been asked to cut down on my weekly exercise from 6 days to 5 days. So I will now comply with that request. Again, my only exercise is the treadmill but the nurse said that it was plenty for now.
I kept to my word and picked up 4 boxes of chocolate shake and 1 box of vanilla for this weeks supply. I still have a couple of packets of strawberry left over from week one that I might throw in the mix too.
Today has been a GREAT day and I hope this week is great too. Two weeks down and toooooooo many weeks left to count…till tomorrow-

Monday, March 15, 2010

Day Fourteen...

Whew…Monday
Not a bad day at all. It seems like that throughout the week it’s a little easier to stay on my schedule even though on the weekends I still drink the shakes around the same time as I do throughout the week.
I guess work has a lot to do with it as it keeps my mind off of the diet. I’m usually busy at work all day and it makes the diet tolerable. I don’t think that the weekends are harder but my time is probably not as consumed as it is throughout the work week.
Another night on the treadmill and I increased my minutes tonight from 20 minutes to 30 minutes. Wow, that extra 10 minutes kicked my be---hind!
I’m trying to get psyched up for clinical tomorrow afternoon and hope it is favorable.
I wish I could say that I can’t believe that the first two weeks are already over as I would be lying to you. I honestly can say that the past two weeks have been harder than anything that I have ever done in my life.
This is a K-I-L-L-E-R diet and if you know someone else who has tried this and they say…oh, it’s not too bad. You know the ole’ saying liar, liar pants on fire!
I am very dedicated and committed to the NutriMed system and have not swayed off of it one bit. I see the light at the end of the tunnel and hope it’s not the one to take me to heaven-

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Day Thirteen...

It’s Sunday and a hard diet day.
I feel like that I am on a diet and an emotional roller coaster today.
Not sure what is up but I don’t like it. Maybe it is the soon to end week two on this drastic diet.
I have had my shakes and now about to eat a packet of Cream of Chicken soup, so far my favorite soup of the three that I have tried.
It’s funny how I don’t need a packet of soup everyday. But yesterday and today was definitely a “need to” day.
This weekend has really been a killer-
I hope the week starts off well and especially on Tuesday when I go to my second clinical and weigh in.
This past Tuesday while at clinical I ordered 3 boxes of vanilla shake and 2 boxes of chocolate shake. This week I will order 3 boxes of chocolate and 2 boxes of vanilla.
There are 7 packets in each box and I have decided only to drink 5 shakes a day instead of 6. The nurse said that this was perfectly OK as long as I get the 5 shakes in daily.
My calorie intake each day is 420 calories.
Here’s to a great Monday, please…

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Day Twelve...

Wow today has been a long day, maybe because it has rained all day and not really anything on the agenda.
While it has been a relaxing day it has also been somewhat of a difficult day on my diet.
My stomach has been growling for most of the afternoon. I have had three shakes today and even had a cup of the NutriMed powder soup and still my stomach is growling. I am about ready to have my 4th shake and then go down to some neighbors house for a Saturday night of ? ? ?
I have worked out on the treadmill again today and feel really good. I cannot believe the energy that I have. I mean, I have always had a lot of excess energy most of my life but I actually feel different and could tackle almost anything.
The diet is not getting harder as most people thought that it would especially without eating. I find it getting easier and now almost a way of life for me. Now I don’t want to go to far and say this is it…for the rest of my life, but it will be for the next 3 months. Well, not quite 3 months anymore. I can’t believe that it is almost time for my clinical visit again and another week down. I hope my nemesis (the scale) is on my side and a friend of mine this week.
It would be difficult to be on this type of diet and not loose weight in a given week. I mean it is not like I have cheated, because I haven’t, not one bite of food. I promise

Friday, March 12, 2010

Day Eleven...

TGIF---
I feel like it has been a very productive week at least diet wise.
I just finished 20 minutes on the treadmill and about ready to enjoy my last shake for the day. Maybe enjoy is a little bit strong. How about tolerate?
I know that it is only week two but I can almost say 100% that I will never, ever, never, ever drink a milkshake or malt again! Sorry, UDF, I hope that they don’t go out of business. LOL
The family just ordered Papa Murphy’s pizza and they are baking in the oven now. It smells good and I can tell that it is time for my shake as my stomach is growling. It’s not really from hunger as I am well past that stage (probably around day 4) but more just time to have a shake.
I am not sure what the weekend is going to bring in activities but whatever it is I am ready and willing.
Till tomorrow “blog” followers, if any? Hello, are you out there? LOL

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Day Ten...

I’m going to start sounding like a broken record but another uneventful day has come and gone.
Some ole’ routine…blood pressure check, drink first shake before work, second, third and fourth shake at work. I then get home get on treadmill, drink last shake-done!
I am still drinking a lot of water and still going to the bathroom like there was no tomorrow.
The bad taste that was constantly in my mouth during the first week and most of this week has now subsided. The Clinical team at the hospital said that this is normal and will dissipate over time, finally.
I am up to 30 minutes on the treadmill and walking consistency 1.2 to 1.5 miles in 30 minutes. Not bad for my first week and a fat boy who hardly exercises!
The weekend is upon us again and looking forward to see what challenges lie ahead.
It has actually been a good week and a 100% better than the first week!

Day Nine...

Not going to be a very long blog tonight as it has been a pretty uneventful day.
I did have trouble with a couple of shakes today. One was my fault the other was the shake!
At work I made my usual midmorning shake and was about to drink it when I was interrupted and had to set it down for about 10 minutes. When I went to drink it the shake it had already gotten warm----yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!
I almost did not get it down and even gagged a second or two.
The moral of that story is…don’t drink a warm NutriMed shake!
The second shake was in the afternoon and I mixed it up like always. I let it sit for a couple of minutes (taste’s better that way) and then started to drink. When I got about halfway down I noticed something in my mouth other than liquid and all of a sudden it burst and was a large powder ball of the shake mix. I said it once already and I will say it again….yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!
Other than that it has been a good day and another day is yet to come, till tomorrow.

DAY EIGHT...

Today was my first clinical meeting at St. E. Ft. Thomas.
I arrived around 4:20 and was called back at 4:30pm.
I had to fill out a weekly questionnaire, talk to the nurse to discuss my 1st week on NutriMed, have my blood pressure taken and my heart listened too. And then the BIG moment arrived….da-da-da-da…the dreaded doctor’s scale-my life long nemesis.
As I walked out of the exam room and headed down the hospital hall I felt like I was in the old Twilight Zone series. It was the episode that the man was walking down a hallway and the further he walked the longer the hallway became almost impossible to get to the end. Sorry went off on a tangent for a minute there and really showing my age too. Does anyone even remember the Twilight Zone?
Anywho, I got upon the scale and I LOST 10 POUNDS!
Yes I was excited and the nurse too. Whew, glad that was over.
I was then scheduled to go to the lab and have blood drawn and a urine specimen taken. My only thought was hurry and take any and all of the blood needed just let me go to the bathroom. The lab technician asked if I thought that I could fill up the cup. I looked at her and said, I could fill up all of the cups on the 5 tier shelf  with no problem what so ever.  She looked at me and laughed. I guess she thought that I was kidding. NOT!
I am drinking approximately 100+ ounces of water each day. Hence the multiple time (thousand) bathroom runs throughout the day and night.
I finished giving my sample and headed back to the outpatient entrance to pay and pick up my upcoming shakes for this week. I decided to only get Chocolate and Vanilla because I needed a break from strawberry. Even though I like the strawberry I cannot get it out of my head that it reminds me of Pepto-Bismol. I’m giving it a break at least for this week and then rethink my decision at next Tuesday’s clinical.
All for all I am a very happy man who is 10 pounds lighter than I was last Tuesday. My current weight is 234 pounds and I have 42 pounds to go.
<<< GOAL 190 POUNDS>>>

Day Seven...

Today is Monday, the 7th day of the NutriMed diet.
It has officially been 1 week, 7 days since I have had anything to eat and I feel great!
The liquid shakes are going down pretty easy now, very, very little hunger pains and only if you don’t drink a shake every 4 hours. I have learned very quickly to try not to let that happen.
The water consumption is amazing. The down side… I have to pee (can I say that on a blog?) all of the time and throughout the night is horrible. I get up at a minimum of 3 times each night. And, then you count the time each night that I have to let our beagle out to go pee it’s like a vicious cycle that I can’t spin out of. LOL
I have already consumed 4 shakes today and ready to drink my last one.
I have also worked out on the treadmill as soon as I walked in from work and Iwalked 1 mile at speed 2.8 in a little under 22 minutes. I’m thinkin’, not bad for a “fat-boy”!
I’m extremely excited to go to my first clinical on Tuesday at St. E. Ft. Thomas at 4:30pm. I am not going to be disappointed (well too much) if I don’t hit their projected weight loss during the first week (8 to 10 pounds) as if anyone knows me when I decide to do something I do it with all of my heart and soul. I have NOT had one (1) bite of food during this whole time. I have also drank more water then required (due to that I am just thirsty) and I have only had 1 small glass of diet ginger ale, 2 glasses of un-sweetened iced tea. The rest of this week I have only had water and Crystal Light-5 calorie packets.
To be very honest with you the first 4 days of the diet was a little difficult. I had some weak moments that I thought that I needed to eat something. Not really to cheat on something bad but more just to be able to eat something, anything.
I have made it another day and looking forward to tomorrow…

Day six...

Sunday has come and gone and officially the weekend is over.
Today was a great day!
Did my daily routine…
Blood pressure check. Check.
5 shakes taken today. Check.
70+ ounces of water drank. Check.
I then mixed up the day and started my first exercise routine. Well maybe I shouldn’t call it a routine since I am only walking on the treadmill but I did stay on it for 20 minutes and set the speed at 2.5. Time it was said and done I walked 3/4 of a mile.
My wife and I went with our next store neighbors to the Cincinnati Home and Garden Show and walked around that for a couple of hours too.
After we left the show we went to Frisch’s (I LOVE Frisch’s) for dinner. I had two glasses of unsweetened Ice tea and I added 2 packets of Splenda. I was amazed of how good that glass of tea tasted. This was the first time I had drank something other than water since the start of the NutriMed system.
I combined two shake packets with 16oz of water before we left for the Home and Garden show to make sure that I was full the whole time including dinner as I knew we would probably go out to eat afterwards. This was the first time that I had two shakes at once and it did the trick.
The table consisted of a couple of Big Boys and fries and then a Country Fried Chicken dinner with white gravy and onion rings.
If I could eat I would have ordered my favorite Frisch’s meal which would have been Grilled Chicken Sandwich, fries and a side salad with ranch-extra ranch. Oh, and I could not forget a side of tarter-sauce (mixed with ketchup) for my fries and mayonnaise for my sandwich and then a cherry-extra cherry coke. Mmmm-good. Now that is livin’!
I thought to myself if I can sit at Frisch’s and not eat then I can really do this outrageous diet.
The most that I miss is chewing. Sounds strange but I miss this really bad.
All to all it has been a great first weekend of a diet. I think that I will treat myself to another bottle of water.
Till tomorrow….my journey continues.

Day Five...

It’s Saturday and it has really been a good day today.
I must be getting used to not eating as I don’t think about it much anymore.
I had 5 shakes today and 2 packets of soup. I am still drinking lots of water, a couple of packs of Crystal Light each day and while at a neighbors house tonight I had a cup of diet Ginger Ale (no calories). It tasted pretty good and I think that I could drink this or maybe another diet drink occasionally.
It has been an uneventful Saturday just spending time with the family and enjoying a nice sunny day.
I would say today has been the easiest day so far. I hope that I have a lot more days like this in the coming weeks.
Five days down and eighty-five to go...here’s to Sunday!

Day Four...

TGIF…

Today has been a little more difficult day for me for some reason.
The day started out pretty much like the past few days (typical first week on a diet) but I noticed as the day progressed that I was becoming agitated and I am not sure why.
I had my 1st shake in the morning before going to work and then 3 shakes during my day at work. I also incorporated a packet of soup at lunch time and enjoyed the nice break to drink something warm instead of cold shakes all the time.
My wife called me on the way home to see if I would be interested in going out with some neighbors at Buffalo Wild Rings. At first I was hesitant and said no due to the first week on this severe diet but then I thought that I had better get use to this and decided to go.
Before we left home for the restaurant I boiled 8oz of water and poured a packet of Chicken “powder” in the water mixed it up and headed to the restaurant. We met our neighbors there and as everyone ordered off of the menu I drank my soup and water with lemon.
While they were waiting for their food we talked about this diet as this is the first time that we were together since I started this on Tuesday. I looked around the room at the food on each table and can honestly say it smelled good but I was not craving it and just had to have it. Maybe the shakes & soups are doing their job?
Anyway, when their food came and I had a plate of whole food sitting on each side of me I was still pretty content with my dinner selection of soup and lemon water.
We talked, laughed and I watched them as they enjoyed their dinners. It is amazing how partaking of food brings everyone together. Whether you are in a restaurant or in your own home, the kitchen is where your heart is.
I am now home drinking my last shake of the day and thinking what challenges this first weekend at home my bring as my first weekend on the diet. During the week work keeps me pretty well occupied and I have less time on my hands as I do on the weekends.
I will tell you that my family and friends are very supportative and wishing me the best of luck on this journey as they wish the best for me always.
I try to keep my eye on the goal to get this weight off of me so I can discontinue taking 6 prescriptions each day and just allow myself to feel better as a soon to be 50 year old man.
Enough for today, I think my neighbor down the street summed today up pretty well for me. He said that “crabby pants’ needs to go home and get him self straightened out before tomorrow. Good ideal! Crabby pants out!!! LOL

Day Three...

It's Thursday and day three of the NutriMed diet.
Today was another good day. Took my blood pressure again this morning, had my first shake before I went to work and then the same routine as yesterday and probably everyday from now on.
I did go and pick up 3 different boxes of soups at the hospital to add a little variety in my day.  I am sitting here now drinking Minestrone soup.  To my surprise it is really good and flavorful.  Well, as much as an instant packet of soup can be with 90 calories. LOL
I'm very excited that I can introduce a few hot soups into the program.  I feel that I need the warmth of a hot cup of soup in my body.
The beauty of adding the soup is that it is considered an "extra" and you do NOT have to remove one of your shakes.  You are allowed up to two extras each day besides your 5 to 6 shakes a day.
Even with the soup and the 5 shakes each day your daily calorie intake is still less then 500 calories.
It is amazing that your body can survive on this amount.  I'm sure that is where the 64oz of water comes into play too.
I will tell you that I have really not experienced a lot of hunger pains.  I have found out that if you do not drink a shake about every 3.5 hours or 4 hours your stomach will let you know that it is time to drink a shake.
As I said earlier, today is another good day and looking forward to tomorrow...3 days down, 87 days to go!

Day Two...

I started the first day (3/2/10) on NutriMed and had 4 shakes due to the late start from being at the hospital in the morning getting my shakes, meeting with a doctor and paying my first weeks fees.
I only had a slight rumbling in my tummy around 10pm last night but no real hunger pains as I had feared. The diet is designed to keep you full so you will not experience hunger pains.  Not a bad first day at all.
Today I got up, took my blood pressure, recorded it in a journal for nexts weeks meeting and had my first shake before 7:30am.
I had a couple of bottles of water and then it was 10:30am and time for my second shake.  I have decided to alternate between chocolate, strawberry and vanilla to try to keep it interesting.
I had my third shake at 1:30pm and then another couple of bottles of water. I have already had more then the required 64oz of water even by this time and yes, going to the bathroom quite a bit.
I waited until I got home for my 4th shake at 6pm and then will have one more at 9pm.  It's hard to get 6 shakes in a day and I may even go down to 5.  I have found that if you drink one shake about every 3 to 4 hours you actually stay full.
I have decided that I am going to call the Nurse Coordinator and see about getting some of the soup packets as I think that the hot broth would be filling too.  You mix one packet with 8oz of hot water, stir and drink.
I actually feel pretty good today and looking forward to tomorrow.  It's been over 48hours (6pm on Mon) since I have had any solid food.  2 days down and 88 days to go...

Day One...March 2, 2010

Today is the first day of the rest of my life or so I have been told..................

I'm going back a few years now, actually 45 to be honest, when I was 5 years old about to begin my elementary school years as a 1st grader. I remember my Mom taking me to Sears to their "husky" department for young boys. At that age I didn't really put much thought into not being able to shop at regular department stores and thought Sears was the only place to shop.
The "husky" department at Sears kept me in not so fashionable clothes for many years to come as I continued through elementary and then into Jr. and Sr. high. I will admit that as I became older and more aware of my situation that I did find the "big and tall" boys/men's section at some specialty stores a little more appealing in style.
As a child the family doctor always said that I was extremely healthy (you think!) and of course my favorite saying was, wait for it...."it's just baby fat"!!! What, at 16!
Another favorite saying directed to me was..."he just has big bones". I guess this compares to someone who has small bones and is a normal size.
During my high school years like all teenagers you are trying to decide what you are going to be when you grow up. I thought that since I like food so much (eating) and over the years had become a pretty good cook that I would enter into the Culinary field in my Jr. year.
My Culinary experience continued into my Sr. year and then also a couple of years afterwards to obtain my degree.
I worked in multiple restaurants and continued to cook for the masses. This was NOT aiding in curbing my appetite.
At that moment a new diet was being introduced to the "states" from across the pond in Great Britain. Their faze diet was The Cambridge Diet. The concept of the diet was to drink 8 oz. of water with a couple of scoops of their powder to supplement two of your meals and then you would eat a regular size portion meal.
Great concept with no medical supervision attached. The weight did come off and quickly too. I thought if I'm loosing weight by drinking this twice a day just think how much weight I could loose if I didn't eat anything. Bad ideal, very bad! The diet threw my whole system out of whack and landed me in the hospital more than once I would like to admit for dehydration.
Of course after that the traditional diets began including Weight Watchers and Diet Workshop. Both are great diets and somewhat sensible too but like all diet's once you go off of their plan and don't monitor your calorie intake you realize that you are FAT again!
I am now out of my twenties, married-extremely b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l wife, 3 kids and a hectic, busy life. I tried to "watch" my calorie intake but I was fast becoming very comfortable with my lifestyle and now looking back still would not have changed anything!
The mid thirty's hit (36) and WHAM, out of the blue I have a stroke! Thanks high blood pressure that I thought was under control with medication-NOT! Our lives greatly changed overnight and my wife now had four people to take care of besides herself.
She bathed and dressed our three kids (all 5 and under) and then it was my turn. The stroke left my left side paralyzed for over two years. After a lot and I mean a lot of physical therapy and occupational therapy I slowly came back around to my old self but now taking 6 prescriptions a day plus an aspirin regiment.
My 40's came in like a lamb and I continued my regular doctor visits ever six months for checkup's. Our kids are now teenagers and living life to the fullest like it should be. My wife and I work a lot of hours and fortunately love our jobs. (we work together at the same company). As we see two of our children getting ready for college and slightly becoming "an empty nester" I decided that it was time to take control of my weight issue, get off of my 6 prescriptions a day, and I wanted to do it before I turn 50.
This all started around 4 weeks ago when I went to my family doctor for my 6 month check up and I found that I was bribing the nurse, offering to pay her $25.00 if she would reduce my scale weight by 25 pounds before she marked my chart for the doctor to see. I think that I was somewhat kidding but now that I think about it, not sure?
My doctor who is a great guy and has been with me since my stroke in '96 has always wanted me to loose weight to help control my blood pressure. Now, he was going to come in the exam room and I know the first thing out of his mouth would be my weight. This time he had a legit complaint as I was shocked at my weight too. *Remember that I have usually weighed between 224 and 228 pounds for over 15 years now.
As soon as the door opened and the doctor shook my hand my mind was racing in all directions to keep him away from opening my chart and seeing my huge weight gain. My wife is also a patient of his and like all of us everyone has their on vice to live with. Knowing that the doctor is always on my wife to quit smoking I thought this would be the ideal time to get the pressure off of me and onto her (in her absence) that I blurted out.....do you know that my wife is still smoking! Did I tell you that she still enjoys smoking too. This was not one of my proudest moments but if he got him off my back I would apologize to her later (and I did a couple of times).
Anyway after going through all of that it still didn't help. I think that the nurses write in my chart in red ink what my weight is so the doctor can find it immediately. As he opened up my chart he said that he was extremely concerned with my weight and that I have to do something about it.
My weight was 244 pounds! How did this happen? I'm still asking myself that same question over and over.
That is when I decided to take back my life. I knew that it would not be easy (it never is) and getting closer to the big 50 the weight does not come off as easy as it once did in my 20's. I did not want to go down the conventional diet path again and realized that I needed to "jump start" my weight loss program and had heard about the NutriMed liquid diet program through a local hospital .
I know, I know another liquid diet-not good for you or your body. After extensive research and meeting with the Nurse Coordinator I knew that this was for me. The diet is monitored by a clinical team that includes weekly meetings and monthly lab work. The "pre" lab work that is required is CBC, T-4-TSH, Urinalysis, Lipid, EKG & Complete Metabolic Panel.
I choose this diet because it is closely monitored by a doctor and a nurse clinical team and I thought what a better place to go through a diet but at the hospital. My doctor is on board with this and has even contacted the NutriMed team to get more information on this program for other patients.
Now getting back to the beginning of my blog. I started the diet today and have already had 3 shakes and actually looking forward to the remaining 3. I have chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. You are required to have 6 shakes a day at 80 calories a shake and NO food during the initial time.
That means that I will go for the next 12 weeks drinking a complete liquid diet. I will also drink at least 64 oz of water daily. You can have diet soda (don't like) and Crystal Light (5 calories per pack), coffee and tea, I like the other stuff and find it will be fairly easy getting the required liquids down each day.
This is my first blog and I promise that my daily entries will not be soooooooooooo long. I thought that it was necessary to give a little back ground info on me and my past failed diet experiences.

As I began this blog I will end it in the same way....TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE...
