November 1, 2010

Hello!  Wow, how the months have flown by.  I thought that I would take a minute to update since it has been awhile.  I am still counting calories every day staying under 1,900 calories.  I have not been back for a "weigh in" since August 3rd of this year.  I am planning if my schedule premits to go back next Tuesday November 9.  I have not been on a scale since August 3rd either, this should be interestering. I don't think that I have gained weight or if so, not much as I can still fit comfortably in my clothes!  LOL
Yes, I am still working out at LA Fitness on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and also taking a Zumba class on Monday night and a Step-Ab class on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.  I think 6 times at the gym each week is enough.
I will tell you that I accomplished something in my life this past Friday October 29, 2010 as a ran my first 5K.  I ran the "Run Like Hell" 5K in Cincinnati. The race started at 7:30pm Friday night and I was accross the finish line by a couple of minutes after 8pm.  I ran the 3.2 miles in 33 minutes and some seconds.  It was my personal best as it was my one and only to date.  LOL  It was really cold and pretty dark running through most of the course.  The hills were hard but glad, really glad that I did it.  Now for my next 5K on Saturday November 20th at my daughter's high school.  The race is called "Band on the Run"!
I feel really good and glad that this past year happend in my life.  It has been a whirlwind year and a lot of changes for Jon Mason.  I am thankful to go into the holidays and even all the food and drinks that are associated with the holiday.  Moderation, moderation, moderation....Till my next post-take care!  Jon

August 3, 2010 - 4 weeks off of the re-feed program and on my own!

Well I went to clinical last night Tuesday August 3, 2010 and it was my first visit since I came off of the re-feed program 4 weeks ago.
I lost 1 pound and now weigh 175 pounds.  It was great seeing the Clinical team at the hospital and good to talk and meet with other NutriMeders'.
I met with the nutritionist and she decided that I needed to add more protein to my daily diet by eating more chicken, fish and/or adding nuts or peanut butter.  She said that I also need to add some fat to my diet as I am eating pretty lean most days.
I am still around 1,998 calories per day but not sure if I am getting them all in or not.  It is really hard to tell when you are busy most days.
I still workout at the gym 5 days a week and I have also added a couple of 1 hour classes 2 times per week such as Zumba and step arobics + abs.  I really enjoy those classes and it is fun with a group too.  I think that I will try a new class on Thursday's to see number one if I can even do it or even last the full hour.  It is Boot Camp Conditioning and I think that it is going to kick my &$*.
It was also suggested that I reduce my workout days from 5 days per week to 4.  So, I will be taking off on Wednesdays and as always, Sundays.  I'll see if I like this schedule and if not, go back to 5 days as I still enjoy working out each morning before work.  It really sets the tone for my work day and I also feel good that my workout is completed and have the remainder of the day to do whatever I want to do.
If anyone is at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence or Ft. Thomas the month of August look at the display case as soon as you walk in the front doors.  You will see the NutriMed system displayed and also before and after photos of me.  I guess you can call me the Nutrimed "poster-child".  LOL.
Wow, I look at the before photo of me and can hardly remember that person.  However, it does put everything in perspective as I realize on a daily basis that I do not want to look like that again.  That alone keeps me motivated, watching my diet and working out as often as possible.
If you think about it, it is all about choices and I have choosen a "life style" change.  I enjoy my new appearance, I like my new clothes, I feel 100% better-all the time and I like my new eating and exercise habits.
This experience has truly been a roller-coster ride since the very beginning.  And with anything you have your ups and downs (roller-coster again) but at the end you have to decide if it was worth it.  I can answer that in one word...YES!
I could not have done this without the support of my wife, Jenny, my kids, Josh, Justin & Jillian and family and friends.  Thank you all so much.
I will return for my next clinical visit in 4 weeks and we will go from there.  I will update my blog at that time if anyone is still interested.
If you or someone you know has questions about the NutriMed diet or my weight loss journey, please feel free to email me at:  jon.mason@insightbb.com
Till next time...Jon

July 23, 2010 update

Hello, and yes it's been awhile.
I wanted to give you an update on me since I have come off of the refeed program while on the NutriMed program.
I am doing great!  I had my "FINAL" NutriMed Clinic Tuesday July 6, 2010 and my weight has pretty much stayed the same for the prior 3 weeks to my last visit.  I have around 176-177 pounds.
My goal weight when I stated the diet was to get down to 188 pounds, but now that I am in the 170's I think that I like where I am at.
My wife and some close friends still say that I am too thin (never, ever thought that I would hear that in my lifetime) and I am not sure if I will be able to keep my weight in the 170's or not but for now I am and feet awesome!
I am very, very and I mean very cautious of what I eat on a daily basis and try to plan my meals around what we are doing in the evening.  If I know that it is going to be a restaurant evening then I cut back on breakfast and lunch so I do not go over my required calorie intake.
I can consume about 1,998 calories per day and hopefully not gain weight.
I eat a lot of salad, vegetables, chicken, fish, fruit, etc.  Red meat does not sit as well with me so I try to stay away from it as much as possible.
I cannot believe the "healthy" choices that I now make eachday, everyday.  My wife loves my eating choices too as she is eating the same way I do and has lost weight herself.  Not that she had to as she is an extremely B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L woman and looks great as she is!
Since coming off of the refeed program I have endured 2 seperate vacations.  Our first vacation was on a houseboat trip with famil and neighbors for 5 days in Lake Cumberland, KY.  Our second vacation was in Sea Side, FL (between Destin and Panama City) with family and neighbors and we were there for 8 days. I must say that I did very well eating fruits, vegetables, chicken and fish.
This coming Monday I hope to get back on my "pre-vacation(s)" routine as I feel better when I have some organization in my life.
I have been working out at the gym at least 4 days per week at 60 mintes per visit and I also attend at least 1 step aerobic class and 1 Latin Heat class per week at LA Fitness.  While on vacation in Florida I ran in the mornings (4 of the days) around 1.8 to 2.0 miles each day.  That was enough with the Florida heat and humidity it felt like 5 miles and I was running around 6 in the morning too!  Whew, hot!
I have not been back to the hospital for a clincial check up since my last night on Tuesday July 6, 2010 but I have decided to go back for a weigh-in and check up the first Tuesday in August on the 3rd.
I have been asked by St. Elizabeth if they could use my before and after photos and a brief description of myself. Apparently my photos will be on display in the hospital at the St. E Florence and Highland Hts. location the month of August.
This past week I cleaned out my entire walkin closet and took all of my clothes to Matthew 25 Ministries.  I did keep 1 XXL shirt and 1 pair of dockers - waist 40 as a reminder.  I am currently wearing either a medium or large shirt (depends on how it is made) and a size 32 in pants.
I would recommend the NutriMed diet to anyone if they are serious about losing weight.  But I will tell you that it is just not dieting the gets the weight off or keeps it off.  You MUST workout, run or exercise in order to get and help keep the weight off.  It's not a quick fix and don't I know it.  Even with me going to the gym and taking extra classes each week as I have done since my third week on the NutriMed diet it is going to take me at least a year or longer to get my body in the shape that I would like it to be.  Granted my body has completely transformed and since I have been working out from almost the beginning it's really not that bad but I do have some "trouble" areas that are going to take me a little longer to get in shape.
I will try to add another post after my next clinical visit on August 3rd.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send them to me at jon.mason@insightbb.com.
Thanks for following my journey-Jon

1st re-feed down, 2nd week starts on Wednesday 5/26

Tuesday…
Hey, it’s been a few days. I will tell you that I have missed updating my blog on a daily basis but honestly on the re-feed portion of this diet not a lot is going on.
I am day 7 on my re-feed diet and I am still having a hard time getting the 4 shakes in each day and the 2 meals too.
I will be glad when this week starts so I can reduce another shake each day down to 3.
The only think that increases this week on my daily food allowance is I get another bread/starch exchange.
I am excited for this as I can then eat a bread product either twice a day or a bread product and a starch (potato or maybe popcorn)?
As I said earlier it has been an uneventful week so far. I am getting better at eating again and it doesn’t take me the 40 or 50 minutes to get down a small meal as it did the first two days of the re-feed program.
I still depend on the shakes each day as I they are full of vitamins and nutrients that I still need on this very low calorie intake each day. My first week of calories per day is 726. Still not a lot, but more then the liquid portion only of 420 calories per day.
Now that the weather is nice I have started seeing a lot of people that I have not seen in a long time and all are amazed of how much weight that I have lost and how good I look. I also tell them that I feel GREAT too and glad to be at this weight instead of my old Jon weight of 245.6 pounds. I see a picture of me the day that I started the NutriMed diet on March 1st of this year and I say to my self, “who is that person”? I am very, very glad that I found this diet through St. Elizabeth Healthcare and would highly recommend it to anyone who is SERIOUS about losing weight. I have said many times that it is not easy and you really have to stay focused but if you are determined, then you too will succeed!
I had my clinical visit today and meet with the nutritionist for about a ½ hour and then with the nurse for about 40 minutes. My blood pressure is excellent 110/62 and I even lost weight this week. My current weight is 183.5 pounds.
I feel great and eager to start week two.

Day Eight One & last daily blog. (I will post each Tuesday after Clinical)

Friday…
I enjoyed last nights dinner and now glad that I am back to eating again.
When I first decided that I was going to loose weight back in February I set a goal for myself to have all of the weight off of me by my 50th Birthday. Today is my 50th and I have accomplished my goal and even then some.
I am beginning a new chapter in my life not only as a 50 year old but also as a much healthier person at this stage in my life. And, I also received my “official” AARP card! What a hoot!
Well I went to my Doctor today and I received great news. He took me off ALL of my blood pressure pills (4) and my high cholesterol pill. YEAH… this is what I was aiming for and extremely happy.
My wife and some neighbors are taking me to Buffalo Wild Rings tonight and I am going to have their naked grilled tenders and maybe a little chips and salsa.
Tomorrow night we are all going to Hollywood Casinos “Boogie Nights” disco and I am going to dance the night away. LOL.
Today will be my last DAILY blog entry however I will add an entry each Tuesday night after my St. E. clinical visit for the week.
If you are still interested in reading then look for it on Tuesdays.
Have a great weekend everyone…I’ll post this coming Tuesday. C-ya

DAY EIGHTY...

Thursday…
I didn’t do as well on my first day of the re-feed program as I thought that I would.
I could not get in the 4 required shakes. I tried but only could manage 2 shakes yesterday and a small lunch and dinner meal. I was too full and ran out of day!
I have tried to do better today as I know that the shakes are still important to me and the successfulness of the NutriMed diet.
I have had 3 today plus lunch and now ready to eat my dinner. I honestly do not know if I can get the 4th shake in or not before bed.
My second day has been good. I started my day at the fitness center and always feel good when I begin my day working out.
I am looking forward to going to Buffalo Wild Wings with my wife and maybe some neighbors on Friday evening for my 50th. I picked there because the first week that I went on the NutriMed diet back in March of this year we went to Buffalo Wild Wings that first Friday and it was my first trip to a restaurant without being able to eat anything. So, I decided, how fitting to go back to BW’s the week that I can actually eat and besides it’s my 50th Birthday!
I have decided to have their Naked Tenders with a small amount of dipping sauce and that’s all. I also received a free B-day coupon for a desert (how ironic) and will gladly be passing that off to someone else in our group.
All to all it’s been a pretty good 2nd day.
I am looking forward to my Doctor’s appointment on Friday afternoon, but most of all looking forward to seeing my Doctor’s face when he sees me! LOL
The bummer is I also have lab test(s) and my appointment is not until 1pm so I have to fast from midnight tonight until after the lab work at 1. My whole schedule will be off and I will be lucky to get all of the shakes in tomorrow too. Sigh, what a dilemma!
It’s all good, really!

Day Seventy Nine...("I get to eat"!) LOL...

Wednesday…
Food Wednesday-LOL
I packed my lunch last night (boy, does that sound funny). So today for lunch I had 1.5 oz of fat free Turkey breast, ½ cup cucumbers and red, yellow, orange peppers mixed and 1 ½ tsp. of brown mustard.
Now I’m full and miserable.
I have already had two shakes today and I have two more to go plus dinner tonight. I feel like I am struggling to get it all in today. Sigh…
I did not go to the fitness center this morning as I was really sore from my previous workouts. I increased my sets from 3 sets of 10 on each piece of equipment to 4 sets of 10 now and I can feel it all over.
Not to fret as I brought my gym clothes to go after work today since my wife is out of town on business this week.
I have decided that on the weekends that I am going to cut up all of my fruits and vegetables for the week and store them in airtight containers in the refrig as it would be a pain in the $@% to prepare this each night. Live and learn and then make your life easier…
It has been an exciting first day on the NutriMed re-feed program and now glad that I am at this point of the diet and my life.
I will mention that my stomach has not felt the best all day and I contribute that to eating. I’m not feeling sick by any means, but just a little off. I’ll give it a couple of days and get back to you on this one. LOL
Till tomorrow, people.

Day Seventy Eight...Last day of complete liquid diet...

Tuesday…
Oh, clinical Tuesday…
My morning started out again at the fitness center bright and early and then off to work as usual.
Well today is the day that I have been waiting for, for almost 12 weeks now. It is officially my last full day on the NutriMed complete liquid diet. WHOO-HOO!!!
You know, I didn’t even really care about if I did or did not loose weight this past week. I haven’t done anything different and I still had my daily shakes, still had 100 + oz of water each day and still exercised 5 times this past week. But you know it is making it to the end of this incredible journey that I have been looking forward too.
My weight loss was~~~~~ 4 pounds and I am now down to 186 pounds, 2 pounds lower then my goal weight. As of today I have lost a total of 60 pounds in 11 weeks on the NutriMed liquid diet.
It is with mixed emotions that I close out today and this chapter of the NutriMed diet and now I find myself at the beginning of a new NutriMed chapter. Chapter 1, page 1, “The re-feed portion”.
I bought my food scale at Bed, Bath & Beyond today and after I complete this blog entry I will be preparing my 1st real meal for Wednesday of the following: 3 oz of lean, meat, ½ cup of cooked vegetables or 1 cup of raw vegetables, 1 bread/starch exchange and 1 fruit exchange. Plus I still have 4 shakes for the day.
THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME…
I have had a couple of requests from current blog followers to keep posting everyday but I have not decided if I am going to post everyday or not.
If you are reading this and would like for me to continue to post daily on my blog, I would appreciate it if you would either comment on my blog to let me know your thoughts or to send me an email associated with the blog at jon.mason@insightbb.com .
Either way I will get the message.
Till tomorrow, my BIG Wednesday, everyone---c-ya!

Day Seventy Seven...

Monday…
Ugh, rain & cold.
I worked out this morning at the fitness center and was a little sore before I even started due to all of the yard work/landscaping work that I worked on over the weekend.
I actually did not think that I would make it through the 45 minutes on the treadmill this morning. I did, and glad I pushed on.
My day was kind of an uneventful day and really not much going on.
I am ready for my clinical visit tomorrow at St. E’s and then really, really ready for Wednesday to begin my re-feed program on NutriMed.
I am trying to decide if I am going to try and eat my required amount all in one sitting or space it out throughout the day.
I start off with 3oz of meat, ½ cup of cooked vegetables or 1 cup of raw vegetables and then a bread/starch serving and a fruit serving.
Now that I typed all of that I don’t think that I will be able to eat everything at once so I guess I will spread it out throughout the day to see how that works for me.
Wow, this is going to take some getting used too and also some planning on my part the night before.
I’m not sure if I lost any weight this week as it is getting more difficult each week due to I am right upon my goal weight and I think that my body is telling me, this is enough and we don’t want to go any lower. If that is the case then I am fine with that. If not, then I guess that I could lose a little more weight over the next 5 weeks on the re-feed program.
I would ultimately like to keep my weight between 180 and 190 pounds and my waist between a 32” and 34” size.
I guess this will all depend on once I come off of the re-feed program and talk to the nutritionist at St. E’s. I am really curious to know how many calories I can take in each day to keep at the above weight and size.
I think (trying to be realistic) that a 10 pound weight range (180-190) is doable and my waist size too.
Let’s see what “clinical Tuesday” brings and then onto re-feed Wednesday!

Day Seventy Six...

Sunday…
I’m getting closer to the end of the liquid portion only of the NutriMed diet and counting down the days until Wednesday.
My wife and daughter went to the grocery store today to get regular “family” groceries and also my grocery list.
I have 98% fat free turkey breast and ham. 2% cottage cheese, fresh asparagus, broccoli, apples, bananas, oranges, pita pockets, English muffins (100 calorie), flat bread (100 calorie, Sprite zero, chicken breast, sugar free jell-o, etc, etc, etc,
I still have to pick up a food scale so I can weigh everything but I can run out and get that the first part of the week.
I have decided to go to the fitness center every day this week Monday thru Friday and try to get some of my “troubled” spots off of me. I know that it takes time but want a couple of these areas off of me completely sooner than later.
I now have very few clothes that actually fit me so now that I know that I can wear my boy’s cloths I have been raiding their closets. LOL
I have a pair of my sons American Eagle shorts on now and they fit great! Oh, there a size 32” waist too.
It has been a busy weekend around our house working in the front and back yard and I started again this morning working on the back. Every part of my body hurts and I will be glad to go back to work tomorrow so I can rest. LOL
My wife is grilling out tonight, Rib eye steaks, grilled mushrooms and onions, backed potatoes, corn on the cob and raw green, yellow & red peppers with light ranch dressing. My daughter is baking fun-fetti (sp?) cupcakes with icing.
It smells great and thinking that next week I can have a bite of some things too.
I hope the weekend was a good one for everybody, till Monday, enjoy the rest of your Sunday…

Day Seventy Five...

Saturday…
WOW, what a busy Saturday. I got up early to go to Lowes to get a few things to work in our backyard and my day has not quit since.
I started the morning off with my first NutriMed shake and headed out the door.
When I got home I unloaded our van and started working. I decided to put on a tank top today and found it to be very, very large on me. It was comfortable and I didn’t have a small one so I wore it.
It is now 8 hours later since I started and have called it a day.
While I worked in the back yard around our pool my wife worked in the front yard. Between the two of us we accomplished a lot of required yard work today. I still didn’t get one of my outdoor projects completed today but as they say….tomorrow is another day.
I have drank so much water today from being outside all day that I will be going to the bathroom all throughout the night. Oh wait, I do that already! LOL
We have been invited down to some neighbor’s house tonight for a grill out and relax in their backyard. I will drink one of my shakes before we go down and then also take a couple of diet drinks. No more water for me today.
I am counting down in my head that I only have 4 more days of the all liquid diet. Dang, if this was next week I could have taken a meal prepared by me to their cookout and ate with them for a change.
I think that this is what I am looking forward too is eating again with family and friends. I don’t really care if I eat the same things that they are eating but just being able to eat with them again instead of drinking a shake will be wonderful.
I am not sure what Sunday is going to bring as I guess it will depend on the weather. If it’s nice out again I guess I will do what I did today. Work in the yard.
Time to go…..have a great Saturday evening….

Day Seventy Four...

Friday….
It has been a great Friday but I am extremely glad that the week is over and the weekend is about to begin.
I was at the fitness center at 6:30am this morning and did my 70 minute routine.
I hit a milestone today as it is casual Friday (every Friday) at our company and I usually wear jeans. Last night I put on my jeans and belt like I always do and I walked across the floor in my bedroom and my jeans went down to around my ankle.
OK, that was not good and I did not know what I was going to wear for casual Friday. I then got my new Dockers out to wear when I decided just for fun to go into our laundry room and get a couple of pair of my boy’s jeans to see how they fit. To my surprise both pair fit and the kicker is they are a size 32 waist!
I was so excited and cannot remember the last time that I was in a 32” pair of pants.
I wore my jeans (my son’s jeans) proudly today and was on cloud nine all day.
I decided to get a box from work to start packing up some of my clothes in my closet as after someone looses 55 and a half pounds nothing really fits anymore and it is a struggle just to keep it on your frame/body.
I have started my official countdown on my last official days of the NutriMed all liquid diet and anxiously getting ready to start the NutriMed re-feed program next Wednesday.
I only have 5 more days to go.
I have already made out my first weeks grocery list (man does that sound funny) and will be going to the store the first part of next week.
I remember about 9 weeks ago while on the NutriMed diet thinking….OMG, I still have 9 weeks to go and wondered if I would make it. Now I have answered my own question, yes I have made it and will continue to follow their program through to the end.
I have my first Doctor’s appointment with my family Doctor next Friday May 21, 2010 at 1:00pm and it will be the first time that he has seen me since the week before I stated the NutriMed program on March 1, 2010. I cannot wait to see his face when he walks into the exam room and I know it will be the first time since I started going to him 16 years ago that he will not have a comment on my weight.
I am also hoping that he will remove me from most of my prescriptions as I am only taking ¼ of each blood pressure pill now and a whole cholesterol pill.
My goal when I decided to go on the NutriMed program in February of this year was to get the weight off before my 50th Birthday. Ironically that would be next Friday May 21st and I can say that I DID IT!
Till tomorrow blog followers, have a great Friday! Jon

Day Seventy Three..

Thursday…
Whew, what a week and a half.
As I was getting ready for bed last night I told my wife that I think that I only had two NutriMed shakes for the day. I looked at the clock and it was almost 11:30pm and I thought, too late and went to bed.
I have never only had two shakes in a day before, but it has been just one of those weeks.
I am back on schedule today and glad that my week is coming to an end.
I am going to the fitness center early Friday morning and also getting back into that routine again as well. I have still made it to the fitness center three times this week, well including tomorrow and I am thankful that I got this many workouts in.
I have also reviewed and re-reviewed the two packets that the nutritionist gave me for the re-feed program and I have almost got my schedule down for the next five weeks. She said that I would need to create a “food journal” to track my daily intake and to bring with me each Tuesday. So I have created a daily sheet with all food items that I could have or choose from and then I placed a box next to the item so I could mark it when I had prepared or have eaten it. This would keep me on track as to what I have had for the day, in what category, and also serves as my food journal for the nutritionist.
I am pretty pleased with the log/journal and I know that it will help me throughout the next 5 weeks.
My wife and I took our out of town corporate guests to a restaurant for lunch today that we enjoy going to and one that I have not been to since February due to the diet. The waitress kept staring at me (she always waited on me before) and asked if I was OK and that she has missed seeing me. After everyone ordered their lunch, she looked at me again, and said aren’t you having anything. I said no, just unsweetened tea with lemon. As I was paying the bill at the register she came up to me and asked if I had been feeling OK. I said that I have and never felt better. I asked her why she asked. She said that I have lost so much weight she was not sure if I had been ill or in the hospital. I said no, just a liquid diet for 3 months! We laughed, and she said that she thought that I had cancer or something due to my rapid weight loss and was thankful that I was just on a diet.
Huh, I never had that happen to me before so I left her a “big” tip and told her that I would be back in to eat when I was off of my restricted liquid diet.
Again, what a week! LOL

Day Seventy Two...

Wednesday…
I actually got to go to the fitness center this morning before work for a 70 minute workout. This is the 2nd time this week that I have been able to make it. My next day to go will be on Friday. So, only 3 times this week due to a very busy and hectic work schedule.
I started reading my handouts that I received from the Hospital nutritionist and have found that the next 5 weeks (starting next Wednesday 5/19) are going to be interesting to say the least.
My head is spinning on trying to figure out the portion or serving size and the food group that I am allowed to eat it from. I have decided to put a plan into action to map out my daily food intake for the next five (5) weeks and will work on it this weekend.
I think that I am going to create a daily spread sheet for that individual week and then create a check off item list of approved foods and amounts to keep me straight.
I’ll get back to you on this as it progresses.
I can hardly believe that I only have 6 more days of only the liquid diet. I am so looking forward to this and experiencing the taste of food again.
My blood pressure is still low and at my last reading it was 104/62. I hope my Doctor is as impressed as I am. I am calling for an appointment with him next week.
I am posting early today as we are taking our corporate guests out to PF Chang’s tonight for dinner and I do not want to be posting late again like I did last night due to going to Mitchell’s Fish Market
I had Iced Tea with lemon last night and I guess that I will have that same fare again tonight.
Another night of one of my favorite restaurants and cannot eat…what the heck is going on here? Oh well, I am way too close to the end to partake in food now so I will again have to survive another nice restaurant dinner without eating. Ho-hum

Day Seventy One...

Tuesday…
Clinical Tuesday once again and now I am on my last full week of the NutriMed liquid diet program.
I have requested to start my re-feed program at my next clinical meeting on Tuesday May 18, 2010. Yes, yes, yes!
I was able to go to the fitness center yesterday late afternoon and get in a portion of my daily workout due to my wife was catching up on paperwork and getting ready for our meetings this week. I only did the treadmill but I was on it for 45 minutes and I actually “ran” on it for 14 minutes-straight! Whew, now that was an accomplishment for me. I ran a 14 minute mile. Don’t laugh as that was pretty good for an ex-fat boy and considering that this is only my 5th week at Bally’s. It’s amazing how many more calories you burn running on the treadmill rather then just a really, really brisk walk like I normally do. Typically I burn about 255 calories alone while walking on the treadmill in 45 minutes. Yesterday I burnt 324 calories by running and brisk walking in 45 minutes. There went 4 of my NutriMed shakes for the day – gone!
Sorry for such a late post but after being in meetings all day at work and my clinical visit at St. E’s I had to meet our out of town managers at Mitchell’s Fish House to watch everyone else eat dinner, great unsweetened Iced tea though, it has been a long day.
Well my week of clinical ended like this~~~~~~~I lost another 2.5 pounds this past week. My current weight is 190.5 and I have 2.5 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight of 188 pounds. I have lost since March 1, 2010--------55 pounds.
I knew that this week’s loss would not be spectacular as I lost so much last week. I am clearly not disappointed in this week’s lose and even more excited that I am 2.5 pounds closer to my goal.
All is good and looking forward to the last full week on my all liquid diet. Next Tuesday starts the next phase of this diet and I am looking forward to another beginning.

DAY SEVENTY!!!

Monday…
This starts my “off” week as my complete schedule will be changed due to meetings Monday thru Thursday with our company COO and operation managers.
I really missed going to the fitness center this morning and I am not sure if I will get there until this coming Thursday when my meetings are over.
I had to change my clinical visit too from 4:30pm on Tuesdays each week to 12:30pm. Even that schedule is off this week.
I am going to meet with Karen the NutriMed clinical RN/director to discuss my re-feed program starting the following Tuesday May 18th.
This will be my LAST week on the complete liquid diet portion of the NutriMed system.
I cannot believe that I am coming upon the next phase of this program. It is with mixed emotions and a little anxiety as I have gotten so used to the NutriMed diet and not eating that I am a little nervous with introducing food back into my life.
Now don’t get me wrong, I know that it is time for me to start eating again but on the flipside, I am a little skittish!
My wife is very excited too as a week from this Friday will be my 50th Birthday and she is looking forward to going out to dinner to celebrate and that I can actually eat (although, not much) a meal with her.
I had to miss her 40th Birthday (April 19) dinner celebration but I will make that up to her and more once I start eating again.
I am very excited to meet with the nutritionist to get my re-feed program started and more so to see what my daily calorie intake will be once I come off of the re-feed program to maintain my current weight.
I would like to stay between 188 and 190 pounds if possible.
I am not sure if I will loose anymore weight while on the re-feed program as I have been told that it depends on the individual. Some loose weight and some just maintain.
If I would be the one person to lose additional weight and I go below my original goal weight of 188 pounds then I would like to keep my weight at a point between 180 and 190 at all times.
I think that sounds pretty reasonable and maintainable. One thing that I have never wanted to do while on this diet is to be unrealistic and setting myself up to fail. I’ve had my goal weight in mind since the very first day of the diet and now that I am almost there I feel that I can maintain that or even a few pounds less without causing a lot of stress to keep it there.
Tuesday night we are taking our managers to one of my favorite restaurants, Mitchell’s Fish Market at Newport on the Levee. Unfortunately it will be a meal that I will miss and as always have a glass of unsweetened tea or lemon water. In the back of my mind I know that I will be eating there again, fairly soon. Baked fish, crab legs (nothing fried), steamed broccoli, small salad, etc. Umm-mmmm-good!

Day Sixty Nine...

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY...

Day Sixty Eight...

Saturday…
Is it winter again?
What a Saturday…busy, busy, busy. I decided to get flowers for our urns around our pool and front of the house by our entryway. I also wanted to start an herb garden this year so I bought 6 herb plants, 2 Roma tomato plants and a jalapeño plant so when I get off of this “damn” diet I can make some fresh salsa!
I was going to plant them today in a new pot that I got for the herbs, tomato plants and jalapeno plant but it was just too cold outside.
Anyway, I will get them potted on Sunday and call my new herb garden officially in!
Its 8 o’clock and I can’t remember how many NutriMed shakes that I have had today. I tell you, the weekends throw me all of whack and I seem to loose track every weekend. So do I drink another one? Maybe I have already had 5 today? Do I not drink one? Well I’ve decided that if my stomach starts growling then I will fix a shake.
I can tell you that I have had a lot of water today as all I seem to do is go to the bathroom. I think that I have had my water fill for the day and now looking for either a Crystal Light to drink or maybe even a Sprite Zero. Whoo-hoo, I’m living it up on a Saturday night! LOL.
Not much else going on here this evening so I guess I will close for now. To all of the Mother’s ~~~ have a great Mother’s Day!

Day Sixty Seven...

Friday…
Well I lied! As I was getting ready for bed Thursday night (around 11:30) I thought why am I not going to workout on Friday morning? And since I did not have an answer I decided to pack my gym bag and get my work clothes ready for another day at the fitness center.
I got up this morning and went directly to the fitness center and did my usual workout routine for 70 minutes.
I am now glad that I did as I always feel great throughout the day when I start at the fitness center.
***I have also updated my blog photo with a current picture of me as of today Friday May 7, 2010***
I stopped at Kohl’s last night on the way home to finally buy me a new pair of Dockers and a couple of shirts, a new belt, dress socks and undershirts and pants.
My “big boy” waist pant size used to be around 40 to 41” and that was with a pleated front too. The Dockers that I bought last night was a 34” waist with no pleats!
I also bought me a nice Polo shirt in a large and a dress shirt also a large. I actually tried on a medium of each and could wear it but it was a little uncomfortable under my arms so I opted to get a large instead.
I did however buy a size medium in under garments. Me a medium, I would never ever thought that I would ever wear a medium in anything my whole life.
I went from a 2 XLG shirt size to a large and undergarment size to a medium. I am blown away from this now.
I only bought a few items as I am unsure if I am going to loss anymore weight or possible gain a pound or two after the re-feed program ends and I start eating 3 regular meals each day and then 3 snacks each day.
It will be interesting to find out how many calories that I will be permitted to have each day to maintain my current weight and most of to not gain any weight.
Nothing is ever easy especially when it comes to weight loss or control.

Day Sixty Six...

Thursday…
Aaahhh, I completed my last workout for the week this morning at the fitness center.
4 days in and I feel pretty good. Next week begins my 3 days per week for a while.
Not a lot going on with the diet this week. As you progress each week it becomes such a habit that your daily routine doesn’t change and I guess it get’s kinda boring.
I have decided that when I begin the re-feed portion of the NutriMed system that I will probably not update my blog daily. I was thinking about maybe once a week and probably on Tuesday’s as I will still be going to clinical each Tuesday at St. E’s.
I thought that this would be a good day as it is the beginning of each of my weeks and the completion of another week.
If I find that I have a lot going on during the week I will then update more frequently.
I honestly don’t know how many people are following this blog as my blog site only shows 3 followers but I know that there are quite a few people who log onto my Face Book profile page and connect by the link that I have supplied there.
Regardless if anyone reads my daily posts or not, it makes me feel better and keeps me on track with my liquid diet. It’s almost like an outlet as when I started I was up and down and all over the place the first couple of weeks as my body was trying to adjust from eating to not eating. Now as the weeks have passed it gives me a chance to let everyone know what I have experienced during this time and if anyone else is interested in going on the NutriMed diet what they can expect as the weeks progress.
However you need to realize that everyone is different and will not experience the same thing as another individual.
I hope for those of you who have kept up with my blog that it has been enjoyable and will continue to follow my “journey” as I move to the next phase of the NutriMed system with the re-feed program.
Till Friday…have a great Thursday evening…Jon

Day Sixty Five...

Wednesday…
I am still on a “high” from my past week’s weight loss and glad that the complete liquid diet is almost behind me. Come on 5 more pounds!
I worked out at the fitness center this morning and even through an extra 10 reps in each of my Nautilus equipment that I workout on each morning. Now, I’m sore! LOL
I am not sure if I will get the last 5 pounds off this week, but I am sure going to try.
I had to change my clinical visit time for next Tuesday from 4:30pm to 12:30pm due to weekly work meetings that are schedule for next Monday thru Thursday. Our COO will be in town and my week will be jammed with meetings.
It is going to be different going to clinical at 12:30pm but I was glad that they could accommodate.
Next week will also be a little challenging getting my workouts in as I will be without my company car and cannot go into the fitness center at the crack of dawn. I may have to change my whole workout week so I can even go. Now that I think of it I will probably go Friday, Saturday and Sunday to make up my missed time.
When I go onto the NutriMed “re-feed” program I am probably going to cut my weekly workouts down to 3 times per week or Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s. Now it will all depend if I can keep my weight at a reasonable level if not, back to 5 days per week.
The nurse last evening asked me if I wanted to start the re-feed program this week and I politely declined. I would like to get to my goal weight before the re-feed and I guess it will depend on how much I loose this week to determine if I am going to go on it next week or not.
I am in my 10th week as of yesterday and I may start the re-feed next week at my 11th week or if not, definitely the following week at the beginning of my 12th week.
Till tomorrow, have a good Wednesday everyone!

Day Sixty Four...

Tuesday…
It seems like Tuesday’s are coming so fast now. I remember when I started this “damn” diet that it seems like forever for each Tuesday to come. Now, their here every week, quickly too!
There’s not much to say when it’s clinical day and as I have said numerous times before, you just never know how it’s going to shape up for you. Even though the scale has become my friend, all though slightly, it is not as bad as it was before I started this diet or even the first few weeks on this diet as I kindly referred to it as my arch nemesis!
The scale will continue to be my friend until it creeps up a few pounds and then were life long enemies again!!! LOL
This is the first Tuesday in 9 weeks that I did not have to pee in a cup! The sad thing is, that I still drink so much water that as soon as I walk into the hospital doors I head to the men’s room and then I usually head there again when my appointment is over around 50 minutes later. It is sad to have to admit that.
Well let me get to what I have been patiently waiting for since last Tuesday and give you my results… (Drum roll, please)…
I LOST 8 POUNDS THIS WEEK! YES, 8 POUNDS! I have now lost 52.5 pounds in 9 weeks with ONLY 5 pounds to go to my goal weight of 188 pounds. YIPPE, YIPPE, YIPPE~~~~~~~~~~~
I think that working out 70 minutes, 5 times a week is enough for anyone and I am not going to workout on the weekends either. There is just too much going on at our house and I need to give myself a rest from the fitness center each weekend.
Well as week 10 began this morning, bright and early, I am anxious and excited to see what this week has in store for me. Good or bad, I’m better than I was 10 weeks ago, right?
Have a good Tuesday evening everyone and I will post again on Wednesday.

Day Sixty Three...

Monday…
Well I was in my weekday routine again this morning as I started off at the fitness center at 6:30am through 7:45am and then into work.
I will tell you that it was nice having a 3 day break from working out and I know that my body needed it. Now I am hitting the fitness center hard this week each day through Friday.
I’ve gotta’ get these last 12 pounds off of me!
Tomorrow is Tuesday and my weekly hospital visit and I am again anxious to get to it and see what the damage is done. My luck I would have only lost ½ pound and still at the 200 pound mark. I hope not and hope this is another 3 pound or better loss this week.
My blood pressure is still low and I am running out of my prescriptions so I hope that my Doctor will remove them from me so I can see if I can control my blood pressure by diet and exercise instead of prescriptions.
I think that my pressure reading was 111/63 with a pulse rate of 58
I still feel good, actually exceptionally well for my 9th week of the NutriMed diet. My 10th week officially starts tomorrow, Tuesday.
Some days I cannot believe how long I have been on this very restricted diet and then it hits me….12 weeks is a long time to be on a liquid diet! I can honestly tell you that I don’t miss the food, as you get over that about your 3rd or 4th week on the NutriMed diet. And it seems that everything that I want to “taste” is good for you, such as fruit, milk, salad, etc. I will be very glad to start introducing food back into my daily living routine and I know my family will too.
I think that is why it is so important to me to get to my goal weight (188lbs) if possible, as I know I will pick up probably 4 to 6 pounds when I fully start eating again after my 5 week re-feed program. It’s a given, and everyone does, as their body gets used to eating again and consuming calories.
I will continue to work out weekly and watch my calorie intake so I can maintain the weight that I have worked so hard to get down too.
It’s time to close for today and wish me a good clinical trip and weight loss on Tuesday.
I will post after I get home from my weigh-in. Jon

Day Sixty Two...

Sunday…
Whew, I’m tired!
My wife and I had one of busiest Saturday’s that we have had in a very, very long time.
We got up and worked on our pool for about an hour. Then we headed down to a neighbors house to help her move for a few hours. We couldn’t spend as much time helping as we wanted to as we had to get ready for the kids prom
When we got back home we had to take our daughter to the sun bed and then over to Florence to get her hair done for the prom.
We got home from that and then the kids friends started arriving for pictures and so on.
My in-laws came over to see the kids and then some dear old friends came over too as they are our kids Godparents to see them off.
Our friend Dawn has also been on a diet for a few months now and this is the first time that we have seen her. WOW, what a difference. She has lost 36 pounds (maybe more?) and looks fantastic! She is on a calorie diet and has joined a weekly “boot camp” group to workout a couple of times each week. I would like to say congratulations to her on a job well done. I am very proud of her and wish her continued success.
After everyone left my wife and I had to go to one of our nieces and nephews play, Beauty and the Best, Jr. performed at Scott High School. Both are students at Woodland Middle School and the play was excellent.
We got home around 9pm and had one more thing to do for the day. We went to our neighbor’s house again that we helped move as she gave us her master bedroom custom closet enclosure and we had to disassemble and bring to our garage so we can put it in our master bedroom closet.
Finally our Saturday was over.
Sunday seems just as busy as we invited a couple of neighbors up for dinner at 6. I have prepared mixed green salad, with cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, celery, carrots, mushrooms, hard boiled eggs and bacon with a couple of dressings. I made homemade stuffed Manicotti stuffed with a couple of cheeses and spinach in a marinara sauce with fresh Parmesan cheese. I also got a large loaf of Italian bread. I roasted a few toes of garlic in the over and then chopped the garlic in drawn butter for the Italian bread spread. I then rubbed fresh garlic over the top of the bread and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese to bake in the over. My final dish is fudge brownies.
I will be drinking my 4th NutriMed shake while they eat my Italian dinner that I prepared.
I still enjoy cooking and even enjoy more cooking for other people, especially for people who appreciate and love to eat!
It has been a great weekend and hope that this week goes as well. It’s getting close to Tuesday and clinical for the week and hope, really hope that I loose at least another 3 pounds. Who knows?

Day Sixty One...

Saturday...
It’s prom day and crazy around the house today.
It’s going to be a short post today as there is just too many things going on and too many teenagers running around.
My wife and I found out last night the apparently our house is going to be the after prom hangout and then a sleepover too.
I think that there are going to be around 17 to 20 kids staying tonight. My oldest son said that he is going to fix a pancake breakfast for all. Well except for me as I will be drinking a glorious NutriMed shake. Humor there!
I’ve gotta go and get the kids off to the prom.
Till tomorrow, have a great Saturday night!

DAY SIXTY...

Friday….
I am going to come clean and tell you that I did not go to the fitness center this morning to workout as I was just too sore.
I feel guilty, and know I shouldn’t as I have been there 4 times this week.
I have decided to talk to one of their trainers next week to see about changing my workout schedule and how that would affect my weight loss or not.
I think that I would like to workout on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays by doing both the gym equipment and cardio equipment as I am currently doing now and have been for the past 4 weeks. I would like to workout on Tuesday and Thursdays only doing the gym equipment and not the cardio part (treadmill, spinning bike).
The reason that I thought this might work is that when I am on the treadmill daily my ankles are starting to ache and I thought the break may workout better for me. I am currently on the treadmill each day for 40 minutes and then the 5 minute cool down part. I usually do 2.75 miles each day on the treadmill or 12.5 miles per week.If I am not going to get the results that I have been getting then I will just keep everything as is and go from there.
I can tell that I was out of my routine this morning as I walked out of the house and even forget to take my blood pressure reading. I guess that I will take it when I get off work and at home.
The president of our company brought me a Polo golf shirt this week as it was given to him and he did not want it. He threw it at me and said, please wear a shirt that fit’s for a change. LOL
I decided that today (casual day) that I would wear it. I have never ever, never ever worn a Polo shirt due to too many rolls of fat and I just did not like how they felt or even more so how they looked on me.
So, I put it on and looked in the mirror and it looked fairly decent on me. Then I took it off as I wasn’t sure. I then thought what the hell, and I put it back on again and decided to wear it to work with jeans.
Now, I am glad that I did as you can really tell that I have lost the 45 pounds. It is not like the rest of my clothing that just hangs on me and hides my weight loss.
My wife said that I really need to get a new pair of jeans due to their bagginess and the puckering around the waist due to my belt being pulled so tight.
I think that I am now ready to get a couple of more Polo shirts as I cannot believe how comfortable they are. This is what my wife has been saying for years but again, I did not like how they looked on me. Some heavy people still look decent in knit shirts and some do not. I was the “do not” heavy person! LOL
Till Saturday, have a great Friday evening…

Day Fifty Nine...

Thursday…
Another morning starting out at the fitness center to get my daily workout accomplished.
I am extremely sore each day this morning and guess it is from working out Monday thru Friday. I am going to keep the same routine next week as the following week I have company employees coming in from Missouri and throughout the state of Ohio and not sure how I am going to get my workouts in. Our meetings start on Monday and will end on Thursday.
This should be interesting as we go out for dinner each evening to entertain and relax and I am always up for that. Good food at a great restaurant there is nothing better. I will still partake in going out with everyone and enjoying the evening and their company however I still will not be able to eat. I guess as I have been the past 9 weeks a tea sippin’ Jon. LOL
If I can’t get my regular work outs in that week I guess I will go to the fitness center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. At least that will get three in for the week.
My blood pressure is still holding below optimal levels (as they call it) and I am consistently at or below 114/66. I am hoping that when my 4 prescriptions run out I will not need to refill again. I have been taking blood pressure prescriptions since I was 35 years old or 15 years now. Please let this vicious cycle be over soon!
I still am curious to know if I will be able to get off of my 1 cholesterol prescriptions, and to find out if it was diet related or hereditary. I assume that test will be conducted by my family Doctor at a later time.
The shakes are going fine and so are drinking all of the required water. It’s just another day on the NutriMed diet.
There is nothing much else going on and looking forward to the weekend with my family.
Its prom Saturday night and both of my boys (seniors) are going and my daughter who is a sophomore was invited and going to her first prom. The household is going to be crazy this weekend. Wait, that’s every weekend and most weeknights too! Oh, what fun…

Day Fifty Eight...

Wednesday…
It’s Wednesday and I got my third workout in so far this week. Only two more to go!
I’m still reeling over not getting in the 190’s yesterday at clinical and with only a ½ pound at that!
Jon, let it go, let it go. What’s done is done and you can’t do anything else about it!
OK, I feel better now that I have talked to me about it in my head! LOL
I met with the clinical Doctor last night and she said that I am doing exceptionally well and that this diet must have been made for me as I make it seem so easy. First of all I have never been on a diet that is easy and this one is no exception. Even though you do not have to think about what you are eating and counting calories or carbs, you still have to be very determined and motivated on a liquid diet. My quick results show that it does work, but you have to mentally and physically apply yourself daily to get through it.
Now that I found out last night that I have started my 9th week it does make the end seem nearer. However, I have to get the remaining 12.5 pounds off of me or I may have to stay on this a week or so longer. I hope not, as I am ready for this portion of the diet to be over.
I am thankful that I will be ending in the warmer months so that when I can eat we can grill most of our meals. I am going to go to the nursery in a couple of weeks and get a few different herb plants so I can season our meals with fresh ingredients instead of “bottled” spices.
The one thing that I didn’t realize is that homemade salsa is good for people watching their weight. It is a great snack or appetizer and you can eat quite a bit of it without adding a lot of calories. Now you just have to get the right chips with low calories too and wa~lah, you have a fresh tasty snack.
OK, that’s my cooking tidbit for today. If I run across anything else I will add that in the upcoming weeks.
Till Thursday, Jon out!

Day Fifty Seven...

Tuesday…
My day started at the fitness center again this morning and glad that it is over. I had a good workout but I almost did not get through it as I was just having a hard time this morning. I wasn’t sleepy or anything else, but it was a hard and seemed like a long workout and I didn’t do anything different then I do every Monday thru Friday. I’ll chalk it up to…just one of those mornings and leave it at that!
I tried to get my day going be getting “geared” up for my clinical visit at the hospital but like every Tuesday you just don’t know what the past week is going to do, either reward you with a weight loss or curse you without a weight loss.
You would hope that another week on a liquid diet is going to guarantee that you are going to loose a few pounds but as I get closer to the end it is hard to think like that and you would even settle for a pound to be off. You hope it’s more then a pound and I would have loved for this week’s loss to be at least four (4) pounds so I can finally get below the 200 pound level, but as I said you just never know.
OK, my week’s weight loss is….another 3 pounds. My current weight is 200.5 pounds for a total loss of 44.5 pounds and I ONLY HAVE 12.5 POUNDS TO GO!!!
So close, but yet so far away from getting below the 200 pound mark. I was a little disappointed but what do you do? A 3 pound weight loss is still a good amount in one week especially 8 weeks into the diet and almost at goal weight.
I closed out Monday as my 8th week on the NutriMed diet and glad my 9th week starts today, Tuesday. I miscalculated my week and thought that I was going into my 8th week. However while at clinical the nurse said that I am going into my 9th week and I get measured too. I have lost 20.5” total body inches with the most in my chest at 7” and my waist at 8”.
As of this coming Friday April 30, 2010 I will have gone 2 months (March and April) without food! It sounds crazy, doesn’t it? I can’t believe it myself sometimes and I am the one living it.
I know my wife will be glad when the liquid part of this diet is over as it is still hard for her to want to go out to restaurant’s knowing that I can’t eat and she will again have another meal by herself. This is something that we always enjoyed together. Trying a new restaurant or visiting a favorite restaurant of ours.
I am not sure if there will be a considerable difference when I am on the 5 week re-feed program as I am sure that I am limited to just about nothing, but I think that it would make her feel better even if I could just eat a salad or something similar to that.
When I eventually get back to eating again we will start with the restaurant “tours” again (LOL) and I will plan my day’s so If I know that we are going out I can save some of my daily calories for the evening dinner.
AHHHHH, to be able to eat again and truly enjoy the companionship that food brings when you are with family or friends. ~~~Bon Appetite’~~~ :-)

Day Fifty Six...

Monday…
Dreary Monday---will the rain never stop?
I could hear the rain this morning as I was trying to wake up from a good nights sleep and really, really, really did not want to get up out of my warm bed, get in the rain and go to the fitness center this morning.
Well I did and of course after you finish working out, showing and then getting dressed you know that you are glad that you did!
My wife left for out of town (St. Louis) on another business trip this week so I won’t see her until Friday evening. I thought about moving my workout’s to after work but then I thought why? I like working out in the morning, I have my routine down, and I also get it over with for the day. So I am keeping my workouts in the AM.
I love being off for the weekends and looking forward to Saturday and Sunday’s each week but even after being on this damn’ diet for 7 weeks (8th starts tomorrow) I still find the weekends challenging. I know that it is because my daily routine is off and I have a lot more time on my hands then I do throughout each week but you would think after 7 weeks it would have changed.
Sometimes I even think that I need to add another shake on Saturday and Sunday because I feel like I need it. I don’t and I haven’t yet but I could add shake number 6 if I wanted too as you can have up to 6 shakes each day.
My 5 shakes Monday through Friday are enough and I do not even think that I could get the 6th one in even if I wanted to. That is why the 2nd week into this diet I told the Clinical team at the hospital that I was fine with drinking 5 shakes a day and have been ever week since then.
During this past week I have also tried to stop my excessive water consumption (still 100+ ounces per day) by 7pm daily. This seems to help me not going to the bathroom 4 times in the middle of each night. However, I still usually go 1 time each night but I am getting more sleep!
Although a wet, cloudy, rainy and cold Monday it was another good day on the NutriMed system.
UGHHHHH….tomorrow’s clinical…

Day Fifty Five...

Sunday…
Wow, another busy morning working on the pool as we are trying to get the last of the leaves off of the bottom of the pool floor. We worked on the pool for almost 4 hours yesterday and another 3 hours today but it is finally finished and looks good. We need another 2 to 3 days for the shock, chlorine and water clarifier to take hold and then the 2010 swimming season is officially open at the Mason house. If it’s nice next week we will turn the heater on Thursday and Friday and will be swimming on Saturday!
I will need to get a new bathing suit this year as with my weight loss there is no way that it is going to fit me this year.
I am also having trouble finding dress pants and shirts in my closet that will somewhat fit me. Even when I put a belt on and pull extra tight I can’t keep a few of my pants pulled up. I was determined from the very beginning of this diet that I was not going to buy any new clothes until I lose all of my weight as I was not spending money on new clothes while still losing weight.
Well, I might have to rethink that comment as I don’t know if I am going to be able to wait until the last 15.5 pounds come off. I’ll get back to you on this.
I guess now that I think about it when you lose 41.5 pounds you have to expect that nothing is going to fit you.
I really don’t have a lot to talk about on the diet today as it is the same as every other day.
I have clinical in two days and then back to the fitness center in the morning. I have already packed my gym bag and I have my work clothes in my car for tomorrow morning. It’s easy if I get everything ready the night before as when I am trying to do this in the morning it takes too long as I try to get out of here by 5:55am.
Let’s see what this week brings with weight loss and then move on from there. I start my 8th week on NutriMed and glad that the end is almost near.

Day Fifty Four...

Saturday…
I slept in this morning for the first time in forever. I actually woke up when my oldest son left for work around 6:00am then I dozed off and on until my second son left for work at 7:30am and I thought that there is no reason to get up this early so I turned over, looked at my beautiful wife of 21 years and fell back to sleep.
I woke up at 10:45am! Wow, I must have been tired as I hardly ever, ever sleep that late. I think that it was my two weeks of getting up early and then working out every morning that finally caught up to me. It was worth it though as I got in two weeks of great workouts.
I got up and had a cup of coffee with Splenda and then a shake and a bottle of water. My wife and I worked on our pool for about 3-4 hours trying to get the leaves out as our winter cover had a hole in it and we did not know it so all of the leaves that were on top of the cover went to the shallow and deep end of the pool. The pool company opened the pool on Thursday and it has been up and running since but we had to get the leaves out and get it cleaned up. We got about 95% of it cleaned as we had to let the water settle down and could not see what to vacuum anymore. Our pool is fairly large at 16’ X 32’ rectangle and ranges from 2.5 feet to 9 feet deep.
It was time to quit anyway as the rain was coming quick.
During this time I had two more shakes and a few more bottles of water and now just have 2 shakes left to drink for the day. I am not sure if I am going to drink a lot more water today as I have already consumed 80+ ounces and I think that I am about watered out for today.
Not sure what we are doing the remainder of the day as it is pouring down rain and have no plans as of now.
I am starting to think of clinical today as it is only a few days away. Man, Tuesday’s come quick anymore. I am pretty sure that this is my last week of peeing in a cup and then I think that my next big event will be in two weeks (my 9th week) as I will have my body measurements taken. This will be the first time since my first day on this diet.
Gotta go…have a good Saturday….Jon

Day Fifty Three...

TGI-FRIDAY…
It’s been a really good week this week but I am glad it is over and the weekend is upon us.
I worked out bright and early this morning and now extremely happy with myself for working out 5 days this week in a row for 70 minutes a day. The weekend will be my rest session from working out and then I will be back in the fitness center at 6:30am on Monday morning to start another week.
I am not sure what our plans are for this weekend as I believe it is supposed to rain most of the time. We did have the pool company to come and open our pool yesterday so if the rain lets up we will probably work on it and get it ready for swimming season.
The shakes are still good and I am not having any problems on the NutriMed liquid diet. I actually have not had any difficulty at all while on this diet. I guess I am fortunate as I have been told that some people have intestinal issues that go along with this type of diet.
This past Tuesday April the 20th started my 7th week on NutriMed and although it has been good I am glad that I am on the downside of the diet. I am getting anxious to start the 5 week re-feed program after I get to my goal weight. I will meet with the hospital nutritionist and they will plan my days for me during this portion of the diet. I think the first week I will only have 4 shakes a day and 1 small meal. The second week you reduce down to 3 shakes a day and 2 small meals and so on and so on until you are at the end of your 5 weeks.
I will have more information on that when I get closer to the stage of my diet.
I think of it as a new chapter on the NutriMed diet and also a new chapter in my life.
It should be interesting to say the least and I am looking forward to this and the changes.
Have a great Friday evening everyone, till Saturday!

DAY FIFTY TWO...

Thursday…
Ok, I’m getting tired now. I think my last two weeks of working out at 6:30am is starting to catch up to me.
I still enjoy the workouts in the morning, but man, I am feeling it!
I am still sore again today so I think that is part of my problem too. I will continue the workouts and now I guess will stop whining too.
This week has flown by and I cannot believe that it is Thursday already.
My blood pressure is still low but I have not been light headed in the mornings as I had been before my blood pressure medications were reduced.
I am still going strong on the NutriMed diet and each day is a no brainer. Drink shakes, drink water, exercise and good to go.
I will be heading back to the fitness center for the last time for this week tomorrow morning and I will definitely NOT be working out over the weekend. I guess I will hit it again hard next week, Monday through Friday as well.
You know as I reflect back on this diet it is really not that bad once you get used to it. The first couple of weeks are extremely difficult and hard but once you survive that it’s pretty uncomplicated.
I am so glad that I chose this route and if I had to do it all over again I would do the exact same thing. This is exactly what I needed to get me started on my weight loss program and I am very happy that I did. I continue each day to feel like a new man and proud of myself for sticking with it.
I will post more on Friday, my friends.

Day Fifty One...

Wednesday…

Well I was right…I am again sore, very sore from my last three days of working out at the fitness center.
About 40 minutes on the treadmill this morning and I told myself that I cannot make the last 5 minutes and that I just did not have it in me. I did make it and not sure why I was trying to psych myself out.
The fitness center will see me again on Thursday morning at 6:30am as well.
I am still pretty pleased about my 3.5 pound weight loss but I am more pleased to be closer to my goal weight of 188 pounds.
I think that the last time that I saw that weight was in my late teens or very early twenties.
I would love to be at my goal weight before my 50th Birthday but not sure if that is going to happen or not. You would think that 15.5 pounds would not be a lot to get off, but I think that it is going to be a s-t-r-u-g-g-l-e. It’s not for the lack of trying but as I said in my post yesterday, the weight is getting harder and harder each week to get off. My 50th is May 21st and fast approaching!
I was told at Clinical last night that I only have one more week to pee in their cup and then that part will be over. They also told me that I will be measured on my 9th week. The last time that I was measured was the day that I started this diet on March 1, 2010
It will be interesting to see my measurements. I think that they measured my neck, chest, arms, waist, legs, hips and calf’s. They also took a picture that day and they let me see it last night. WOW what a difference and I am so mad at myself for letting me get that big.
How embarrassing, but factual.
I also took about 4 pictures on my BlackBerry on March 1st and they are worse then the picture that the hospital took as I am only in shorts. I can hardly stand looking at them.
I thought about keeping the photos of me on the treadmill to look at and keep me motivated but just the visual picture that I have in my mind after looking at those God awful photo’s is enough to keep me going for a long, long, long time! LOL
Today was another good day on the NutriMed diet and looking forward to Thursday.
Happy Wednesday and hump-day everyone…

DAY FIFTY...

Tuesday…

I went to the fitness center this morning and worked out from 6:30am to 7:45am and I could really feel the soreness from yesterday’s workout and I am sure that I am going to be sore again tomorrow.
A couple of my blog followers notified me that I did not post on Sunday. I can assure you that I did and I am not sure where the post went. This is the first time that this has ever happened. And from what I can remember it was a pretty good post too! LOL
Well as you know it is Tuesday and clinical day at St. E’s and the Tuesday routine remains the same.
Sign in, grab your chart, complete your weekly profile sheet, wait to be called by the Nurse, pee in a cup, go into a private observation room to drop off you keys, cell phones, etc and then walk down the hallway to the big bariatric scale at the end of the corridor.
You then wait for the scale to reset to “0” zero and then you get on…AUGHHHHHHH!
OK and this week’s magic number is…3.5 pounds lost for a total loss of 41.5 pounds. My current weight is 203.5 pounds and I have 15.5 pounds to go…It’s really getting hard to post a “big” number anymore. Oh well a loss is a loss and I am happy!
After you go back into your private observation room the nurse takes your blood pressure, reviews your chart and then discusses any concerns or just general information as you progress on the liquid diet regiment.
The last and final step for the evening (if not labs are due) is to go to the counter and purchase your week’s supply of the NutriMed shake system, pay and go.
Now you have a week to wait until you start this all over again.
The life and times of the NutriMed participant! LOL

Day Fourty Nine...

Monday…
I had to go to Columbus today for business and whenever I have a day trip since I have been on the NutriMed diet I have to plan out my shakes while I am driving.
I packed a cooler with 4 bottles of water and 2 pre-mixed shakes. It actually works out pretty good as long as the shakes stay cold. Believe me you do not want to drink the shakes if warm.
I drank a shake this morning around 7 before I left for my trip and then had a shake going to Columbus and then another shake on my back from Columbus. That makes three with two more to have this evening.
I also stopped at the fitness center on my way back to workout since I couldn’t get there this morning before work.
I increased my cardio time to 40 minutes and can feel the difference all over my body now as I sit and type this.
I am still working out on the gym equipment (no free weights) for about 30 minutes and now 40 minutes on the cardio stuff. Anyway, it is a good 70 minute workout and I am hoping to get Tuesday thru Friday in this week and then not go 1 time over the weekend.
Tomorrow is dreaded Tuesday-Clinical day and you just never know how it is going to go.
Another week without cheating or eating anything, still drinking my 5 shakes a day, 100 + ounces of water and 1 diet Ginger Ale at night. I know, I know, same old boring routine. I guess someone would say that I am in a “rut” but not a lot of variety or choices when you are on this kind of strict diet!
I will post after my clinical visit tomorrow evening and let you know the good or the bad.
Till then, bye!

Day Fourty Seven...

Saturday…
Last night we met a few neighbors at the Independence Buffalo Wild Rings and had an early Birthday celebration for my wife. It was a fun evening for all. I guess there were around 18 of us and it was a good evening drinking, eating and laughing for a few hours.
Everyone’s food looked good and I enjoyed a glass of unsweetened Iced-tea with lemon and sweet n low.
Now before my diet I would have ordered 12 Teriyaki wings and a side order of potato wedges with cheese with ranch dressing to dip the wedges in and a large glass of Pepsi.
As I was sitting there (and apparently my food mentality has changed) I would have considered the following two options for my dinner choice.
Option 1 - Salad with grilled chicken breast and whatever light dressing that they had with a glass of unsweetened Iced-tea, lemon and sweet n low.
Option 2 – Naked (grilled) chicken breast on a stick with a dipping sauce on the side (so I can control how much sauce I eat) and a side salad with light dressing, unsweetened Iced-tea, lemon and sweet n low.

I think both choices sound pretty good to me. Of course they do, as it is food, and something that I have not had in 48 days!
Now I have also thought about maybe as a “treat” that I would allow myself to have the potato wedges, cheese and ranch. I would need to decrease my calorie intake for that day if I knew that I was going to eat that at night. This would be an occasional treat for me and not something that I would consume that often.
Not a lot going on here Saturday. My wife and I went to Ace to get some pool chemicals to open our pool; we went through the drive thru and the new Frisch’s to get her a big boy and vanilla coke and then we came home and began to work on our pool.
I’ve had three shakes today and then also went up to the drug store to get a pill cutter to cut my pills in half as they are too small and too hard to break by my hand.
We have an 18 Birthday party to go to tonight for one of our closest neighbors and will enjoy the evening with friends.
I am going to workout in the morning at Bally’s around 8 (when they open) and once I leave I am going to Lowes to get some Miracle Grow topsoil to plant the 9 yellow hedge rose bushes that I got my wife as one of her 4 Birthday presents.
My plan is to work in the yard all day on Sunday and then relax Sunday evening and spend it with my family.
Have a good weekend…Jon

Day Fourty Six...

Friday, Friday, Friday…
I worked out this morning at the fitness center and did 30 minutes of gym equipment for my upper body and then 35 minutes of a cardio workout on the treadmill and spinning bike. I walk right by that damn elliptical (sp?) climber row as I hate that piece of equipment and currently refuse to get on it!
I could not figure out why I am so sore this week and then realized today that I added an additional 10 pounds of weights on the gym equipment on Monday. I guess that will do it to you.
I had a great day at work and looking forward to the weekend with my wife and kids (if their around?). My wife’s 40th Birthday is Monday and I have designed this weekend to give her a present a day until Monday. Today she will get my first present, Saturday the second and then Sunday the third and final. I have to do it this way as I am out of town on business on Monday and will not be in the office with her.
There was actually a 4th present but she knows about that one and we are awaiting its delivery any day now. I ordered her 9 yellow (her favorite color) hedge rose bushes and I am going to plant them for her around our pool equipment and grill area in our backyard.
Hey, she deserves everything that I can give her for putting up with the likes of me for 21 years!
Now getting back to my diet I am a little worried that I am not going to be able to wait much longer for new clothes. As I said in an earlier blog my clothes are now falling off of me. I put on a pair of jeans today and they are huge all over butt, legs, thighs and especially the waist. I can pull the waist out about 4 inches from my waistline. Yes, I am a very happy camper and this is what I have been working so hard to see.
THANK YOU NutriMed, THANK YOU Bally’s as both have changed my life dramatically.
Till Saturday everyone, have a good weekend! Jon

Day Fourty Five...

Thursday…
I must admit that I decided not to go to the fitness center today as I am sore and did not want to hurt anything and then not being able to workout.
I will be at the fitness center bright and early Friday morning before work.
It was a great day today and really not a lot to report.
My blood pressure was extremely low this morning registering at 105/63
I reduced my pills yesterday and think that I will probably have to purchase a pill cutter as a couple of them were a $#%@ to cut in half! LOL
I hope that after I am on the new dosage that my blood pressure will kinda’ level out and then maybe, just maybe I can get off of all of my meds or at least half.
The jury is still out on the high cholesterol prescription that I take each evening as they have not reduced that one yet or told me that I could quit taking. I had blood work this past Tuesday at the hospital but I am not sure if they can determine my cholesterol level with the type of blood work that was requested.
I will ask that question next week at clinical.
As you can probably guess that all of my clothes and I mean all of my clothes are not fitting me very well but I am not wasting the money until I get the 19 pounds off of me.
My belt is pulled so tight that the front of my pants and the back of my pants waist is puckering.
All of my dress pants always had pleats in the front and I can now say that I do not need pants with pleats! I think that when I do buy new pants they will be flat fronts. Wow, I would have never imagined that I would be wearing flat front pants. Good bye, sweet pleats that hide your belly fat, but I will not need you again!
You know how dress shirt seams are supposed to be on a man’s shoulders, well mine have decided to go south and down the arm. The seams are now about 2 inches off of my shoulder. Even my sleeve cuffs are hanging around my knuckles. I swear I look like “little orphan Jon”! LOL
It’s all good…the diet, the exercise, the weight loss, the new body emerging. I have the love and support of my family, my extended family, my friends and co-workers. I will say it again…IT’S ALL GOOD!

Day Fourty Four...

Wednesday…
I got up early again this morning 5:45am to go to the fitness center to workout.
I like this time in the morning and the fitness center is not really crowded at all.
I guess there were around 20 people there while I was working out this morning.
I did hit a snag in the shower for some reason. The facility has 8 shower stalls and they were all being used about the time I was ready to take my shower about 7:50am.
So I wait in the “holding” area and then maybe I became a little impatient as I was standing there I could here a few men just talking and laughing about I don’t know what. My point is that there were other people waiting to take a shower and they were all yakking like they were at a baby shower. I need to get showed and get to work! I finally got in and had to take a quick shower (I think I cleaned everything? LOL) and got dressed and out of there.
Now that I think of it, it was kinda of comical. Like I said, I think that I was just impatient.
I have found to be a little sore as the day progressed on and contribute it to my last 3 days of working out.
I truly want to get the rest of this weight off (19 pounds) and get off of the liquid diet. I guess I am trying to work extra hard at the fitness center each day to accomplish this. I’m not complaining about the NutriMed diet or even that it is a completely liquid diet. I am just ready to be done and start my new life eating sensible foods and working out at least 3 times per week.
My arm is black and blue from the lab work completed on me last night but other than that it was a good day.
The rest of the day was good and nothing new to report on the NutriMed diet today.
Happy “hump” day everyone-

Day Fourty Three...

Tuesday…

It’s hospital, clinical day today…already?
Well I received great news this morning from my Doctor’s office as they decreased another one of my blood pressure prescriptions in half and also reduced a prescription that was reduced a couple of weeks ago in half again.
I am hopeful that in the next couple of weeks I can get off of maybe one or two of my blood pressure prescriptions all together. If so, then that will leave me down to two prescriptions. Yeah~~~
I worked out at the fitness center this morning from 6:30am to 7:40am and then grabbed a quick shower and headed into the office. I really, really enjoy working out in the mornings but hate not to workout in the evenings after work to save me some drive time or lack of drive time in traffic from Blue Ash to Independence.
I may have to rethink this and start working out in the mornings. I don’t know as I am torn between the two options.
I guess it’s time to “fess” up to my hospital clinical visit today so here goes~~~~~~
It was another good week for me as I lost another 4 pounds. My total weight loss in my first 6 weeks is now 38 pounds. My current weight is 207 pounds with 19 more pounds to lose.
I also had lab work this week and I feel it was a good clinical visit!
I am officially ended my 6th week on the NutriMed diet and as of today it is the beginning of my 7th week.

Day Fourty Two...

Monday…
I had to change my workout plans today at the fitness center as I had to come home early due to our kitchen, dining room, hall, foyer and powder room hardwood floors are being refinished.
I decided that I would just use our treadmill here at the house and then go into the fitness center around 6:30am on Tuesday morning.
We have a really good treadmill and the workout was fine but I have gotten so used to the treadmills at Bally’s that it is just not the same.
I mean a workout is a workout so I still feel satisfied! However, I did miss the gym equipment today but maybe it was for the best as I was still a little sore from my workout on Saturday morning and my yard work on Sunday.
I sent my blood pressure readings to my Doctor this morning and the nurse called back to say that they received my fax and that the Doctor would review it and someone would get back to me within the day.
I’m still waiting for the call and I assume now that I will receive it on Tuesday morning.
I am anxious to see what his decision is and hope that it is a reduction again.
Well one more day until Clinical and then I can say that another week is behind me.
The NutriMed diet is so easy now that it is just a way of life for me.
I am really glad that the whole diet (12 weeks) was not like the first two weeks or it would have been “pure living hell”!
I guess what I am saying is if anyone else goes on this diet and you can make it past the first two weeks then you should see it getting easier and easier with each passing week.
Now remember, I have not cheated one bit so I have completely forgotten about tasting food. If you do cheat, this would probably make the diet harder due to the fact that you are drinking shakes and also eating. I am sure that this would cut down on your weight loss too and keep your body messed up as it does not know what you are doing. Losing weight on a liquid diet or eating or both?
I’m guess I am looking forward to Clinical as I have no choice and hope for the best.
Come on three pounds…at least-----LOL

Day Fourty One...

Sunday, beautiful Sunday...

Last night before going to bed I had a severe nose bleed that lasted about 20 minutes.
I thought that it had stopped as I waited about another half hour before going to bed and then I get in bed and it starts all over again. Now typically I do not have a lot of sinus or allergy problems and I am not sure if that was the cause of my nose bleed or not.
My wife said that it could be my blood pressure and that she wants me to call my doctor on Monday. I was going to anyway, as this past week I have had some other issues with my blood pressure as I noted in my daily blog. So it is indeed time to make a doctor call.
I’ve had 3 shakes today and did not go to the fitness center as I have already gone 5 times this week and also worked out in the back yard around the pool most of the day.
My day started going to Lowes to get a few things and then on my way home I stopped and got the family (well, the ones who were here anyway) some lunch.
After getting home I immediately started working in the mulch beds, digging up and splitting up some flowers, moved a couple of bushes and trimmed a couple of our trees.
It was the first day since being on the NutriMed diet that I have really done a lot of physical work (besides the fitness center) and I think I did pretty well.
I still have no loss of energy while being on the NutriMed diet and seem to be handling daily activities really good.
I went with my wife to the sun bed this afternoon for the first time since last June when I was getting ready for our 20 anniversary trip to Cabo San Lucas. Oh, Cabo, what I wouldn’t do to be there again.
It felt good to start getting a tan as the winter has been pretty harsh on me as I look at my skin and I am ghost white. I bought an unlimited month package and will probably go the nights after I go to the fitness center which is at least 4 days per week.
Well I am already thinking about Tuesday and clinical as I always start getting a little anxious for the weekly big day.
Oh well, like I say most of the time, I haven’t cheated, I worked out and stuck to the NutriMed diet 100%, so what will be, will be as I could not have done anything more.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and could enjoy the beautiful spring weather.
Till tomorrow…Jon

DAY FOURTY...

Saturday…
I started my day at the fitness center and worked out for 1 hour. It was a great workout and I always feel good for the rest of the day with a morning workout.
I stopped on the way home to get my wife and daughter McDonald’s breakfast and I treated myself to a cup of decaf coffee from McDonalds with two Splenda packets and a ½ serving of half and half.
I had already had a shake before leaving to workout and also had a shake when I got home before getting into the shower.
My wife, daughter and I went prom dress shopping again and to our delight, she found one.
We met my mother in-law at the mall for this big event and then went to the mall food court. My wife and mother in-law ate at The Great Steak and Fry Company while my daughter chose Gold Star Chili. I found a place that made fresh squeezed lemon-aid with no sugar. It was refreshing however I had to add a couple of packets of Splenda as it was really tart, but good.
We had a great Saturday and looking forward to see what Sunday brings. I think that I am going to work in the yard and hopefully enjoy the sunny, warm day.

Day Thirty Nine...

Friday…
I was off work today and had to take my oldest son to a campus visit of Gateway.
All three kids had dentist appointments too so my day off was pretty much shot.
Hey listen, a day off is a day off.
No new news on the diet either, same ole’, same ole’-
My blood pressure was still pretty low again this morning and will call my doctor on Monday.
Apparently today was a restaurant visit day with my son as he seemed to be hungry most of the day.
After the dentist visit this morning he wanted Frisch’s. And you know how I love Frisch’s as it is one of my favorite places to eat. I sat there and watched him eat a Big Boy, Fries and a vanilla coke while I drank a glass of unsweetened tea with lemon.
Then after our campus visit he wanted White Castles. So, I stopped a White Castles and he got 4 cheeseburgers, onion chips and a vault. I really must be dedicated to this “damn diet” as he asked if it would be OK for him to eat in the car while I was driving. It was OK by me, but when we got home I had to drink my fourth shake for the day and hope that it would fill me up. LOL
It has been a good day and now waiting to see if my wife has made any plans for the evening.
I’m OK either way if we stay home or if she wants to go out and get some wings or beer that would be fine with me too. As always, I will get water with lemon or an Ice-tea and enjoy the conversation, company and time with my better half.
Till tomorrow, Jon out!

Day Thirty Eight...

Thursday, rainy and cold…(what the heck?)
I cannot believe that I was sore again this morning from my workout at the fitness center.
I guess due to the fact that it is the first time that I have worked out 3 days in a row. I can only imagine as to how I will feel tomorrow as I worked out again today.
My smaller “love handles” hurt, my smaller “man boobs” hurt and my smaller stomach hurts. I guess I am doing something right. No pain, no gain. Ouch!
It has been a really good week on the NutriMed system and looking forward to the weekend. They do not even bother me anymore. As I have said before, you can get use to just about anything.
I noticed that my blood pressure must have been a little too low this morning as I was again woozy when I got up from the bed. I took my blood pressure reading about 10 minutes later and it was registering 110/64.
I think that I will send my last two weeks of blood pressure readings (I have listed on an excel doc) to my Doctor next week to see if I need to either get off of the two blood pressure prescriptions that he reduced by half a couple of weeks ago or if there will be changes in my other two blood pressure prescriptions. Heck, he may make no changes at all. This will be at the top of my agenda on Monday to get this information to him.
He has still not asked to see me and I hope that he doesn’t until my 12 weeks of dieting is up. I think that he will be pleasantly surprised by me.
When I do go to see him this will be the first time in 14 years that I will not be afraid to get on the scale or to listen to him tell me that “I HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT, SOME WAY, SOME HOW”!
Oh, for that day!

Day Thirty Seven...

Wednesday….
It’s just another Wednesday on my liquid diet.
I still feel good and glad that clinical is over again for a week
I think that I had my first craving today since I have been on this diet.
For some odd reason I wanted a Pepsi so bad that I thought about it all morning.
I didn’t get one of course but not sure why I had the urge to have a drink.
For those who do not know me I use to LOVE soft drinks and would have a couple a day, everyday.
Now that the afternoon has come and gone and getting into the evening the Pepsi urge is gone and I hope for good.
I think that I now know and understand the addiction and probably enjoyment of cigarettes that some people have. I assume that it is really hard to quit smoking and always having that temptation around you by other people.
Eating or dieting is the same way, at least in my mind, as apparently this is my vice.
I guess we all have them (vices)?
I have stuck to my guns on this – here we go, wait for it….Damn diet! And still not had a single bite of food since February 28, 2010
The weeks are becoming a lot easier to handle but some day’s it seems like there is a struggle. I guess this is just human nature and being a human, you are expected to eat-right? This is just not natural but can be tolerated for the 12 week duration.
I headed to the fitness center after work today and had a good workout for about 65 minutes. While I was at the fitness center on the treadmill, sweating my you know what off, I started thinking about my 4 pound weight loss for the week and wondered if maybe I would have had one more workout for the week I would have lost more weight. Then logically I realized that this was stupid (I can be that sometimes) and that I worked out hard for 5 days that week and a 4 pound weight loss is excellent. Then, I said to myself, Jon, let it go. What’s done is done and you didn’t cheat, you stuck to the liquid diet regiment, you worked out for 5 days and there was nothing else that you could have done differently. Whew, glad I talked some sense into myself. LOL
So, saying all of that, it is a new week and no matter what this coming weigh in at clinical on Tuesday brings 1 pound, 2 pounds, 3 pounds, etc, it’s the best I can do and I will have to live with it.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Day Thirty Six...

Clinical Tuesday!
All right, here’s the damage that was done this past week…Ta-ta-ta-dah…
I LOST 4 pounds for a total of 34 pounds and I am now down to 211 pounds with 23 pounds to go.
I know that it is my lowest drop in one week so far, but hey, 4 pounds is 4 pounds, right?
Can they suck out with liposuction 23 pounds at one time? I’m just thinking out loud. LOL
I worked out at Bally’s again this morning and had a great workout. I was still somewhat sore from Monday night’s workout but I had it in me to workout this morning too.
I will be working out on Wednesday and Thursday night too as I will be off work Friday and will not be making the drive to Blue Ash.
I still haven’t decided if I will be working out one day over the weekend and I guess it will depend what we have going on this weekend.
I would have worked out 4 times this week and I don’t know if I need the 5th workout or not. Let’s see how guilty I feel and then I will decide.
Its same ole’, same ole’ with the NutriMed shakes as this never changes. Drink 5 a day, drink lots of water, exercise, etc, etc, etc,
I did not have to have blood work done tonight so I assume that it will be next week.
I still feel GREAT and continue to press through on the liquid diet.
It is still hard for people to imagine who know me that I have now been on this liquid diet for over a month now and that I can even function. This is why it is monitored by a clinical team at a hospital. If you follow their instructions and you, yourself are determined to do this you CAN and WILL do whatever it takes to get the weight off.
I can honestly tell you that I feel better then I have in 20 years and what a relief to get the weight off and to workout too. I never thought that I would be going to a gym 4 to 5 times per week.
I can fully see the results and the changes in my appearance and the phenomenal changes in my body. It’s like a new me emerging, a thinner me, and soon to be healthier me!

Day Thirty Five...

Monday, Monday, Monday…
Another good day today and yes it is finally getting easier.
My family and I had a great Easter with the in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.
The day was beautiful and the food looked good too. My mother in-law is an excellent cook and her food always good!
I made 6 pounds of potato salad and a couple of pounds of baked beans to take to yesterday’s festivities and all seemed to enjoy it, except me.
The day was fun and I enjoyed every minute there but I did miss out on dinner.
So far on this “damn” diet and by the way I think that I am going to start referring to the diet as the “damn” diet in all my future correspondence. LOL
Anyway, since I have been on this "damn" diet I have now missed a birthday dinner and now a holiday dinner (Easter). I hope and pray that I will not miss out on the next holiday, Memorial Day. I guess that all depends on how long it is going to take me to get my additional 27 pounds off of me.
So, to be safe I expect that my first holiday that I will be able to enjoy real food (at a smaller portion) will be the 4th of July holiday.
Does this sound like a long way off to anyone else but me?
I feel like the little train that could… “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can, I know I can.”
Tuesday (tomorrow) will conclude my fifth (5) week on the NutriMed diet and Wednesday will begin my six (6) week and my halfway mark. Only 6 more weeks to go-
“I know I can, I know I can, I know I can.” Sorry, but I just needed that for my own good!
I worked out at Bally’s today and feel good that I did. I will probably work out 3 more times this week. This will depend on how much, if any, weight I loose tomorrow night at Clinical. If it is another good week then I will only workout 3 times. If not, then 4 times. It all depends on the magical scale. LOL
I have to have blood work drawn at the hospital during clinical and I hope that the lab tech. is better than the one I had last time as it took me 2 ½ weeks to get rid of the huge bruise that I received from the blood work. Not sure how that happened as often as I have had blood drawn in my life, I have never had a bruise like that before.
Well till tomorrow, my peeps, have a good evening…
